CHAPTER 86: CHAPTER 86; TRAGIC INCIDENT 3
"It exists. Find it. And when you do, bring it to me personally. I’ll handle the rest."
She ended the call and immediately started another.
This time to a lawyer who specialized in wrongful death suits and had a reputation for taking down powerful defendants.
"Mr. Zhang? This is Madam Liu. I have a case for you. A very lucrative case involving the death of my son and the potential negligence, or worse, of Sixth Master Lu."
She would destroy him. Would take everything he had. His business empire. His reputation. His freedom, if she could manage it.
Lu Yuze had made the fatal mistake of thinking he could cross the Chen family without consequences.
He was about to learn otherwise.
LU ESTATE - 7:15 PM
Lu Yuze’s phone had been ringing nonstop for the past hour.
First, it was the police, routine questions about Chen Ting’s visit to the estate, the confrontation, the timeline of events. Lu Yuze answered calmly, professionally, explaining that Chen Ting had trespassed, had been escorted off the property by security, and had left in apparent good health albeit angry.
"We have the security footage from our gates if you need it," Lu Yuze offered. "Shows exactly what time he arrived and departed. Nothing unusual except his forced entry and subsequent removal."
"We’ll need copies of that footage, Sixth Master Lu. Standard procedure."
"Of course. My head of security will provide everything you need."
Then came the calls from business associates, curious about what had happened, sniffing for scandal or opportunity. Lu Yuze handled those with his usual cool efficiency, expressing appropriate condolences while revealing nothing of substance.
But it was the third wave of more concerning calls, calls from Chen family members, some grieving, some suspicious, all clearly fishing for information about what had really happened in those final hours of Chen Ting’s life.
"Sixth Master Lu, this is Chen Wei, Chen Ting’s brother. I understand my brother visited you tonight before the accident. Can you tell me what was discussed?"
"He was looking for his wife. I informed him she wasn’t here. He became aggressive, and my security removed him from the property. That’s all."
"But what made him come to your estate in the first place? Surely there must have been some indication that his wife was there?"
"I have no idea what made him think that," Lu Yuze lied smoothly. "Perhaps he was misinformed. Either way, she wasn’t here, and I told him as much. I’m sorry for your loss, Mr. Chen, but I’m afraid I can’t provide any more information than what I’ve already told the police."
"The police also mentioned something about CCTV footage from the highway showing my brother experiencing some kind of medical episode. Did he seem ill when he left your property?"
"He seemed angry, it’s possible his sugar levels shot up. Beyond that, I couldn’t say. Your brother forced his way onto my property uninvited, made demands, and became aggressive when those demands weren’t met. My security escorted him out. He was alive and seemingly healthy when he left. That’s the extent of my interaction with him. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s very late, and my family needs rest."
Lu Yuze ended the call before Chen Wei could press any further with his questions.
Ah-Ling appeared in the doorway of the sitting room, his expression grim. "Master, that’s the fifteenth call in the past hour. The Chen family is clearly suspicious. They’re going to investigate."
"Let them investigate," Lu Yuze said calmly. "They’ll find exactly what the police found, security footage showing Chen Ting leaving our property in apparent good health, highway footage showing him experiencing what appears to be a sudden medical emergency while driving at excessive speed, and a tragic accident that had nothing to do with us."
"And if they dig deeper? If they start looking into what actually happened here?"
Lu Yuze’s eyes flickered briefly to the couch where Shuyin still slept peacefully. "There’s nothing to find. Chen Ting arrived uninvited, demanded to see someone who wasn’t here, became aggressive, and was removed by security. All documented. All witnessed by multiple guards. He was left alive and in apparent good health. Everything after that is his own doing."
He had been very careful not to mention his new wife to anyone. The police had asked if anyone else had been present during Chen Ting’s visit, and Lu Yuze had simply said his daughter was resting after a medical emergency and hadn’t been disturbed. As for Shuyin, she’d been sleeping in another room the entire time, at least, that’s what the official story would say if anyone asked.
Which they wouldn’t, because Lu Yuze had made sure the security footage from inside the mansion was "corrupted" for that particular time period. An unfortunate technical glitch. These things happened.
All anyone could prove was that Chen Ting had arrived, been denied entry properly, forced his way in anyway, been escorted out by security, and then died in a car accident half an hour later.
Tragic. Suspicious, perhaps. But provable? No.
"The Chen family has resources, Master," Ah-Ling said quietly. "If they really push..."
"So do I," Lu Yuze cut him off. "And I have the advantage of the truth on my side, the documented truth that shows Chen Ting trespassing and being legally removed from my property. Let them investigate. Let them hire lawyers and private detectives. At the end of the day, the evidence is clear: their son drove recklessly after being angry, had a medical emergency, and crashed. Nothing ties me to that."
His phone buzzed again. This time it was an unknown number. Lu Yuze considered not answering, but something made him pick up.
"Sixth Master Lu, this is Madam Liu, Chen Ting’s mother." The voice was cultured, controlled, but underneath it was steel and barely contained fury. "I believe we need to have a conversation. About my son. About what happened at your estate tonight. You should know what I’m talking about...."
