Trapped In A Marriage I Never Wanted
Chapter 100: The Day Without Wife
CHAPTER 100: CHAPTER 100: THE DAY WITHOUT WIFE
Matthias called Sawyer to help him track down his beloved wife. Although Sawyer was also busy with his job as finance director at T&H Group, he was the only one he could rely on to track down his wife. As usual, he only used his assistant during work hours.
Matthias was now busy packing his belongings after guessing his wife’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Sawyer could only shake his head at the now-perfectionist CEO’s unprofessional behavior, despite always being willing to let anything slip by. Ever since Victoria entered his life, Matthias had begun to act recklessly.
"Matthias, are you really going to leave your job again?"
Matthias got up from the sofa and patted his friend on the shoulder. "I’ll leave T&H Real Estate to you for now."
"It’s not just a matter of neglecting your work, but if your mother finds out you skipped work again, she’ll be the one scolding you! I will be fired too."
"I can postpone work, but I can’t postpone taking care of my wife. Please, you must help me! I can only rely on you."
"Please, can you not overdo it?"
"Do you know why I overreacted like this?" His right hand clenched tightly. "I don’t want to regret it a second time. I failed to protect my wife before. I don’t want to lose her a second time."
"Are you still afraid something will happen to your wife again?"
"That killer is still on the loose in this world. I certainly don’t want to let my wife travel alone."
"Matthias... if Victoria finds out you’ve gone this far, I’m sure she’ll love you even more. She’ll hate you even less."
"My reason for acting this way isn’t because I desperately hope he’ll love me, but because I’ll always accompany her wherever she goes. I promised her that."
Sawyer exhaled sharply. Hearing his best friend’s words, he remembered his past relationship with Jennifer, which ended in failure because he failed to protect her. He was just moments away from marrying Jennifer, but because Jennifer was assigned to work overseas, he was forced to end the relationship.
"Are you offended by what I just said?" Matthias asked with a pitying look.
"I’m not actually offended. But I’m reminded of my dark past with Jennifer. I failed to protect her simply because I was greedy."
"You’re not greedy, Sawyer. Can you tell the difference between greed and doing your duty?"
"Aren’t they both the same?"
"If you were greedy, you’d have forgotten about Jennifer completely. But you’re not that type of man. You still remember her, and you even know the consequences of letting her go abroad alone."
"Until now, it seems like Jennifer still holds a grudge against me. I can feel it."
"Should I bet on you? I’m sure Jennifer still loves you, but she needs time and space. Just like Victoria is experiencing right now."
Hearing his friend’s suggestion, Sawyer returned to his friendly smile. He hugged his friend tightly and patted her on the shoulder. "You’re really reliable when it comes to love. You used to be so awkward. You often asked me how to win a woman’s heart."
"Was I really like that in the past?"
Sawyer rolled his eyes. "I actually feel like scolding you for asking too many questions.
"Is it true?"
"Should I remind you of that time?"

Four years ago...
Matthias looked restless after returning home from work. Upon arriving at his luxurious residence, he immediately summoned Sawyer to visit him. He was anxious, unsure how to win the heart of the woman he loved most. At that time, his relationship with Victoria still seemed strained. He even wondered where he went wrong, making Victoria sometimes uncomfortable around him.
Matthias grabbed a bottle of his favorite red wine to share with his friend. He poured the wine into two glasses he had prepared.
Sawyer could only roll his eyes at his friend, who was once again troubled by romantic issues. "Matthias, did you have to go this far?"
"I’m confused. Why does that woman keep avoiding me? Even though I’ve treated her well."
"You mean Victoria? That beautiful woman who helped you design your house?"
Matthias nodded, swirling his glass. "I’ve always been so awkward around everyone, including Victoria. How can I stop her from being awkward around me? I’ve treated her sincerely, too. I’ve always given her everything she wanted."
Sawyer laughed so hard his face turned red. "Matthias, I just wanted to let you know. Not all women want material things. But she wants your sincerity."
"My sincerity?"
"Yes, especially with a woman like Victoria, she doesn’t expect anything luxurious, as she comes from a wealthy family. Just being by her side is enough to make her happy. But don’t treat her too stiffly or excessively."
"Is it true that this method will definitely make Victoria love me?"
"Actually, I can see it directly. She likes you too."
"Really?"
"Jennifer once told me that when Victoria was drunk, she actually told me she really liked you. You were so good in her eyes that she fell in love with you so easily. Therefore, don’t be discouraged."

Back in the present, Victoria is on a solo adventure, searching for answers to the riddles she’s been harboring for years. She’s booked a luxurious hotel for a temporary stay. She’s eager to do many things alone. Although she doesn’t communicate with those closest to her, she keeps her phone on to keep up with them, especially her husband. Even though they haven’t even been apart for a day, she already misses her beloved husband.
What she did after putting all her things in the hotel, now she began walking towards a place that was familiar to her. Previously when her memory returned, she saw a hotel where she first met with Matthias. She remembered the hotel where she first met Matthias who seemed annoying, even though during their first meeting they actually seemed happy. Remembering that sweet moment made her heart begin to bloom, even though Matthias treated her stiffly at that time.
