Trapped In A Marriage I Never Wanted
Chapter 97: The Meaning of The Ring
CHAPTER 97: CHAPTER 97: THE MEANING OF THE RING
Victoria let out tears of sadness streaming down her cheeks after successfully deciphering the meaning of the words written on the ring. The moment she managed to solve this mystery, suddenly some fragments of memories flashed through her mind again. This time, she could see the fragments of memories clearly. The figure of Matthias, who had always been with her, looked happy in the fragments of memories. Likewise, she was very happy every time she went on a date with Matthias. Now she had succeeded in solving the mystery of the owner of the ring, but because she succeeded, now she was confused about herself. Was she worthy of accepting Matthias as her husband just because she depended on past memories?
She was going to meet her husband soon, having promised him a date. For some reason, she was feeling increasingly unsure of herself and wanted to avoid him for a while. It was getting late, so should she just focus on her work?
"Tory!"
Her husband’s shout suddenly brought her out of her reverie. Victoria returned to her graceful posture, welcoming her husband’s arrival, spreading her arms wide.
"Matty, it seems you came too early."
Matthias immediately hugged his wife tightly and lifted her up. "Because I missed you so much."
"Even though we had lunch together earlier today?"
"This afternoon we only met for an hour. Now I can see you whenever you want."
Victoria forced a sweet smile and hugged her husband tightly. She didn’t want him to know how anxious she was right now. Telling the truth now would complicate matters.
"I wanted to meet you too. I’ve been working all day to finish up the work I’ve been neglecting for over a week."
Matthias gently stroked his wife’s head. "Poor wife, how about I accompany you to work here now?" He lowered his wife’s body for a moment.
"What? How about dinner?"
"We can have dinner after you finish your work."
Victoria pursed her lips. "Even though my work was almost done."
Matthias snapped his fingers enthusiastically. "Well, this is actually a very good thing for me. The sooner you get your work done, the sooner we can go on our date." He kissed his wife briefly on the lips. "Don’t forget your energy boost."
Finally, after half an hour of finishing her work, Victoria was able to go on a date with her husband. This time, he chose a different restaurant than usual. It offered a romantic atmosphere and a view outside. Victoria felt this wasn’t a typical date for her husband. In fact, this made things even more awkward.
Victoria had also prepared a strategy for dealing with her husband if he said something that matched her expectations. However, she wasn’t yet ready to give him an answer.
When her husband suddenly fed her, her heart skipped a beat. Initially, she wanted to distance herself from him, but now she couldn’t bear to do so.
"Matty..."
"I have prepared a gift for you."
"What gift?"
"Which will definitely make you happy in an instant."
Victoria widened her smile and touched his cheek warmly. "I’ll be waiting for that gift from you." She also fed her husband. "You should eat, too."
"Chris contacted me earlier. He said his team had edited the product ad video we did. He even said he was jealous of how affectionate we were."
"He was actually jealous from the start. That’s why he deliberately targeted me as a model for his product advertisements."
"Especially when he finds out I’m your sexy and handsome boyfriend."
"Wait a minute! He said I praised you for being handsome and sexy?"
"I should have recorded our conversation back then so you would believe me."
"I always trusted you," Victoria said with an intense gaze.
Matthias touched his chest to feel his heartbeat. "I can’t wait to go on a date with you after this."
"Is what we are doing now not a date?"
"After this, our date will be even more special."
Of course, Matthias wasn’t just joking. He took his wife around the city park again. Every time they passed, the park lights automatically turned on, and the colorful lights moved in their direction. Victoria’s reaction was a happy smile, as she swung her husband’s right hand.
"By the way, is this the gift you were talking about? Are you landscaping the city park again?"
"Actually, there’s something else I want to give you. These garden lights are just a warm-up."
"Matthias, I want to ask you something important."
"What do you want to ask about?"
"Have you ever lied to me?"
Hearing his wife ask the same question again, Matthias stopped in his tracks and released her grip. He wanted to be honest, but he was still lying to his wife. One way he did this was by covering up past events. Even though he didn’t know about the accident, he was hiding important details that made her look like a fool. Should he tell the truth now?
"Tory, actually I–"
"Don’t worry. I won’t blame you. Now I’ll give you a chance. What’s your purpose for suddenly inviting me to the city park?"
"Actually, I want to make you my real wife right now."
"Matthias, didn’t I already tell you the truth? Why are you bringing it up again?"
"Because I want you to answer honestly and formally. I want to formally propose to you now. I don’t want us to just act like a contractual husband and wife, but a real husband and wife."
"Matthias..."
"I want you to forget all about your past. We’ve created so many beautiful memories now, despite the obstacles we’ve faced. I much prefer our relationship now to the past."
Matthias reached for the ring still hanging around his wife’s neck. "How long are you going to keep clinging to that ring? Why won’t you take it off?"
"I already know the answers to all these riddles. Now I’m going to give you the real answers."
"What answer?"
"It seems like I can’t be your wife this time."
