Trapped In A Marriage I Never Wanted
Chapter 98: Solve The Riddle
CHAPTER 98: CHAPTER 98: SOLVE THE RIDDLE
Matthias felt his heart being struck by lightning again. This time, there was no disturbance disrupting their relationship. What else was making his wife hate him? Just minutes ago, they seemed to be getting along. Had he done something wrong to her to make her angry? Matthias still couldn’t accept his wife’s unreasonable answer.
"Why do you suddenly not want to be my wife? Is there something bothering you again?"
Victoria shook her head slowly as she removed the ring from her neck. "I already know who gave this ring to me."
"Do you know who it is?"
"That’s why I’m asking you now. Have you ever lied to me? Especially lying to me that you weren’t the one who gave me this ring."
Matthias’s eyes welled with tears as he stared at the ring his wife held in her hand. "Yes, I lie to you on purpose."
"Why did you lie to me? Was it fun to deceive me?"
"Now I want to ask you a question. How did you know I gave you that ring two years ago?"
"Because I just realized it when I read the words engraved on this ring. Myty means Matty Tory will be together forever. Is that true?"
Matthias nodded weakly. "Yes, I did carve those words on purpose so you’d remember me."
Victoria laughed in annoyance, folding her arms. "You were the one who gave me the ring. But you deliberately fooled me to make me look even more stupid!"
"I don’t mean to fool you. But I really don’t want you to be tied to the past."
"I didn’t mean to be tied to the past. I have no right to hate you either. After knowing all this, I need you to give me some space. I don’t want to see you."
"How cruel of you to say that to me! Is remembering the past a sin for you?"
"It’s not a sin. But I need you to leave me alone for a few days. After I solved the riddle of this ring, most of my memories returned. I remember all the moments we’ve been through since our first meeting until now."
Tears welled up in his eyes. Matthias wanted to touch his wife’s shoulder, but his hand was immediately pushed away.
"Please, leave me alone. Once I’m ready, I’ll be your real wife."
"Tory, please!"
"Should I scold you now?"
Matthias didn’t care that his wife would scold him and hit him. He continued to hug her tightly. "Okay, I’ll leave you alone. I want to let you go so you don’t feel like you’re a prisoner living with me."
"I’m sorry, Matthias. I still love you very much. But I need to find the answers to the questions I’ve been holding onto for years."
"It’s okay. I won’t stop you. Once you’re ready to accept me completely, you can come back to me."
Victoria cried so hard that she gasped for breath. Her right hand trembled as she held her husband’s engagement ring.
"I’ll be gone for a few days. I hope you won’t feel lonely."
"It’s more like I’m the one who’s really worried about you. If you travel alone, who will look after you?"
"Don’t worry, I can take care of myself."
Matthias invited his wife to go home first. After they had chatted for a while in the garden, he now had to accompany her as she packed everything in her room. She took a large suitcase and stuffed it with the various luxury clothes she had purchased.
Matthias still wasn’t ready to let his wife travel alone. He could only crouch down and help her pack her things with a blank expression. If only there was another way to calm her down for a while. He wished she could stay at Jennifer’s house.
"By the way, where do you want to stay for a while? Your previous penthouse has been sold."
"I won’t tell you." Victoria took a deep breath. "It’s not like I’m hiding it to escape from you. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely come back to you."
"But, do you have to go this far?"
"This is for your own good and mine. Once I’ve found all the answers, I promise I won’t be tied to the past anymore." She smiled sweetly at her husband for a moment. "If you miss me, you can look at our photos from all these years."
"So, I can’t contact you either?"
Victoria nodded. "You can’t contact me, because I really want to be alone. If we communicate, my plan will fail."
"What’s your real purpose in suddenly wanting to distance yourself from me as if I were your enemy? I’m sure it’s not just about seeking answers."
"You’ll know why when I’m ready to tell you everything." Victoria zipped up her suitcase for a moment. "I’m tired now. I’m going to bed."
Matthias still wasn’t ready to end his conversation with his wife. Before bed, he wanted to talk to her again. Because if they went to bed now, she might escape while he was asleep. He didn’t want that.
Fortunately, his wife was still willing to sleep in the same room. They were now facing each other. Although she didn’t want to see his face, she still felt his. He couldn’t bear the thought of sleeping alone again tomorrow, as if they weren’t married.
"My handsome husband. I will miss you."
"If you really can’t live alone, you shouldn’t force yourself too much."
"I’m more worried about you right now. If I leave this soon, will you forgive me? Will you hate me?
"I told you before, I never hated you."
Victoria smiled brightly as she hugged her husband one last time before leaving. She wanted to savor this sweet moment before she learned the truth. After a satisfying chat with her husband, she decided to go to bed early.
She deliberately woke up earlier before her husband woke up. She opened her eyes slowly then kissed her husband’s lips for a few seconds.
"I love you so much, Matthias."
