Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer
Chapter 507: Death Within the Mirror Maze
CHAPTER 507: DEATH WITHIN THE MIRROR MAZE
When he once again crashed into a mirror, its shattering kicked up a large spray of water, and five arm-thick Water Chains shot out, binding the Pirate Captain tightly.
The sudden ambush made the Pirate Captain’s eyes widen in anger.
He had been very cautious, keeping his senses fully extended precisely to avoid these harassing cards.
Why would a mirror do this?
He couldn’t understand.
This guy was truly insidious; he’d never shown this move before, yet he revealed it now.
He was already regretting his choice to pick this team.
His body struggled frantically.
A flash of silver-white light—a Silver Coin gleaming with Silver Light—sliced through the air.
It cut into his neck.
The approach of death sent him into a mad struggle. A large amount of Magic Power surged into his upper body. The physical enhancement from his Third Stage still allowed him to forcefully break free of his upper body’s restraints within a second.
In the split second before the Silver Coin could slice open his neck, he jerked his head aside.
"AH!"
Blood splattered.
The extreme dodge, though saving him from death, left his left eye and half of his face covered in blood.
The wound blinded him in one eye.
"You scum!" he cursed angrily.
Rage began to surge to his head.
Just as the words left his mouth, he froze, suddenly closing his eyes.
The pink mist swirling around him suddenly intensified, dragging him into the Dream Realm.
When he opened his eyes again, pain had already jolted him awake.
Why would I fall asleep at a time like this? His heart filled with terror.
The pain forced him to lower his head and look toward its source.
Lowering his head, he looked at his chest. A black blade tip had pierced through it like a hook.
Two more water-blue cards appeared beside his hands, pinning them firmly.
"You... you..."
He didn’t finish speaking. Blood gushed continuously from his mouth. After a few coughs, he closed his eyes, his entire body going limp as it hung suspended in mid-air.
This pink mist... it wasn’t poison after all.
Truly insidious.
This was his last thought.
Blood poured from the wound, gushing downwards like a pillar of water.
Alka stood quietly behind him, watching.
Only when he saw that the Pirate Captain’s life had completely drained away did Alka dispel the Water Chains.
The corpse fell heavily into the pool of blood, motionless.
"This guy didn’t even have a wide-range attack. Truly puzzling," Alka muttered to himself, looking at the corpse. In a Mirror Maze, the best way to break free is to use a wide-range attack to destroy all the mirrors directly. The constructs created by the mirrors have limited durability; a wide-range attack can destroy them in large numbers. Seizing that opportunity, whether to attack or to escape the maze, would be a good choice. But as it happened, this pirate lacked such an ability. From start to finish, aside from some common Spells, he only knew two special moves: an invisible attack and that damage-transfer technique. Moreover, that damage transfer had to be performed with his hands. When his eye was attacked, he didn’t transfer the damage immediately but instead tried to free his arms. At that point, under those circumstances, it was basically impossible for him to keep any trump cards hidden.
So Alka, without hesitation, used the pink mist suffusing the area to drag him into the Dream Realm.
Taking advantage of that extremely brief window, Alka controlled the captain’s hands and finished him off.
Looking at the corpse, Alka squatted down and began to loot it. A captain should have some spoils on him, right?
He found a bracelet and the knife the captain had been wielding.
Holding the two items, Alka looked somewhat disdainfully at the corpse.
"This is too little... Are you really Third Stage?"
Unbelievable. Shockingly poor.
Alka suddenly understood why this man hadn’t possessed many techniques.
Out of the shadows, a Puppet Girl leaped onto Alka’s shoulder.
"How are they doing?" Alka asked.
After all, among the enemy crew, aside from this leading Pirate Captain, the others were unlikely to pose much of a threat. Especially at night.
Thinking this, Alka started walking towards the commotion. A battle seemed to be underway there.
In the distance, a pitch-black sphere enveloped a large area. Inside, it was so dark one couldn’t see their hand in front of their face; the darkness was exceptionally pure, punctuated only by occasional screams from within.
It filled all the pirates trapped inside with terror and pushed them to the verge of collapse.
"How do we get out?"
"How should I know?! How could I know?!"
"It’s over, we’re done for."
The pirates inside the sphere were beginning to break down.
"AH!" A scream pierced the darkness.
Beside him, the pirate who had just been talking had fallen silent.
"Fake Eye? Fake Eye?"
His calls received no response.
"AAAHHHH!" He finally broke, screaming as he ran blindly through the darkness.
Then, a sudden pain shot through his head, and he too fell silent.
Within the darkness, there were only screams and terrified shouts.
When the darkness dissipated and starlight shone down once more, the area was littered with corpses.
Corpses lay scattered everywhere, the scent of blood heavy in the air.
All the pirates had been eliminated in the darkness.
Against such pure darkness, with no means to counter it, they had been nothing more than lambs to the slaughter.
"I wonder how Alka is doing?" Chadite said with some concern.
