CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 27: FEAR FROM THE SOUL

"You do have some real skill; can you discern my fate?"

Yu Nianzhao clasped her hands behind her and smiled with arched eyebrows.

Mr Zhao couldn’t help but pinch his fingers to calculate. The more he calculated, the worse his expression became, even breaking out in a cold sweat on his forehead. He quickly clasped his hands together and bowed to the east, "The mysteries of the heavens cannot be divulged. It’s my prideful arrogance; I beg for forgiveness."

Boom!

There was a clap of thunder in the sky, serving as a response to him.

Mr Zhao’s face alternated between blue and red. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead; the look in his eyes towards Yu Nianzhao had lost its previous contempt and transformed into a hint of reverence.

Damn it, even he couldn’t see through her.

Pinching his fingers to calculate almost got him punished by the heavens, struck by lightning!

Could he not feel reverent?

This kind of fate is either one of dragons and phoenixes transcending the ordinary or one walking the edge between life and death, touching upon the mysterious secrets of death.

Regardless of which, it’s something far beyond his reach.

In this lifetime, not even one or two might ever cross his path.

Yu Nianzhao toyed with the Buddhist beads on Xie Jiuxiao’s wrist, casually asking, "How about it, Mr Zhao? Would you like to continue calculating?"

"I dare not, I dare not."

Mr Zhao humbled himself, nodding and bowing fervently, "Miss, the stone lions have been shattered; should we proceed inside to exorcise the ghosts?"

"I’m here for Song Caiwei, to dispel the evil energy on her face. Other matters are unrelated to me unless... they rush to their deaths."

Yu Nianzhao’s airy words sent a chill down Mr Zhao’s spine.

What the hell!

Earlier, the fierce ghost was incredibly powerful.

But this young girl before him says they’re rushing to their deaths?

Such confidence!

Mr Song appeared somewhat confused, "Mr Zhao, what should we do now?"

Mr Zhao put on a serious expression, "Of course, ask this young lady!"

Mr Song’s breath caught. He looked at Yu Nianzhao, who was about the same age as Song Caiwei, and then noticed Yu Nianzhao affectionately fiddling with Xie Jiuxiao’s Buddhist beads, and this fearsome person remained indifferent?

"This, this, this..."

He seemed to be seeing ghosts, staring at their intertwined hands.

For the first time, seeing someone so close to Xie Jiuxiao.

And it was a living person, a woman, no less.

Truly witnessing an unbelievable sight!

Sensing his gaze, Xie Jiuxiao frowned slightly, his tone displeased, "This is the future Princess Consort Su."

Whoa-ho!

Mr Song’s expression turned peculiar, and he glanced at Yu Nianzhao with some sympathy, hesitant to speak.

Princess Consort Su may have an honorable status, but life is even more precious.

"Ahhhh!"

A piercing scream broke the sky.

Awakened, Song Jiling’s eyes were bloodshot, with dark colors surfacing on his face. He had succumbed to madness, freeing himself from the guards’ shackles, charging into the Song Mansion like a juggernaut.

"Jinglan!"

Song Caiwei cried out and also chased inside.

Mr Song’s worry made him dizzy, "Jinglan, Caiwei!"

Yu Nianzhao pasted a talisman on Mr Song, and the black energy clinging to him fled, frightened, allowing Mr Song to regain his senses and feel much better.

"Mr Song has a righteous aura; it’s just that with age, evil spirits may cling to him. This is an Evil Exorcism Talisman; wear it well when entering the mansion, and you’ll be safe."

"Thank you, young lady."

Mr Song felt refreshed and looked at Yu Nianzhao with newfound respect.

Song Cheng gazed eagerly, asking urgently, "Miss Yu, what about me? I need this Evil Exorcism Talisman too."

"You?"

Yu Nianzhao looked at him with disdain, "You’ve been living with evil spirits, sharing bed and pillow for who knows how many times. What good will an Evil Exorcism Talisman do for you? Don’t waste it."

After saying so, Yu Nianzhao entered the gates of the Song Mansion by herself.

Song Cheng, hearing her words, couldn’t help but gag several times.

Mr Zhao focused intently on the Evil Exorcism Talisman on Mr Song, which still emitted a golden glow, a talisman of such high caliber, making him quite envious.

"Miss Yu, wait for me!"

Like a child, Mr Zhao hurried his steps, quickly catching up.

Upon entering the Song Mansion, a chilling ghostly air greeted them.

"Are there guests at the mansion?"

The graceful Ms Mei escorted her servants and came up to them, her alluring gaze landing on Yu Nianzhao, then looking past her at the carried-in Song Cheng.

"Oh my, husband, what’s the matter with you? Are you injured? It breaks my heart."

Ms Mei clutched her chest and hurried over, her scent sweeping across everyone.

Just as Ms Mei approached, the words of scolding and anger she was about to utter swallowed back, and Song Cheng’s eyes became hazy; he involuntarily responded, "It’s nothing, Mei’er, don’t worry."

Mr Song angrily reprimanded, "Song Cheng, wake up!"

A shout pulled Song Cheng’s thoughts back; he trembled in fear, cold sweat continuously dripped from his forehead, and he shoved Ms Mei out of his embrace.

Ms Mei fell to the ground, looking at him weakly, "Husband, look what you’ve done to your wife!"

"It’s another Eye-blocking Skill!"

Yu Nianzhao snorted coldly, made a hand seal, and a golden light enveloped Ms Mei.

"Ahhh!"

Amid the piercing scream, several black shadows abruptly escaped Ms Mei’s body.

The originally graceful figure turned bloated, and the faces of the servant maids and attendants behind her morphed into a green-gray hue, skinny to the point of resembling skeletons, as if they were fierce ghosts.

"Ah! Who are you? Horrible, truly horrible!"

Seeing his beloved Ms Mei transform from a seductive beauty into a bloated middle-aged woman, Song Cheng could barely withstand the shock, his eyeballs rolling back as he nearly fainted.

Mr Song slapped the back of his head, jolting him awake once more.

"Husband, I’m Mei’er."

Ms Mei’s flesh quivered on her face, her large bloody mouth opened wide, and she tearfully held up a handkerchief to her face in fake sorrow.

"Ugh, ugh, ugh..."

Song Cheng finally couldn’t hold back this time, vomiting directly.

"Miss Yu, this person has little skill; the one behind the manipulation is likely not her."

Mr Zhao pinched his fingers to calculate carefully, shaking his head and pointing towards the central area of the mansion, "Ahead lies the source of the Earthly Evil. Destroying the Earthly Evil is the real deal."

Just as they approached the source, a fierce ghost formed by concentrated evil spirits surged forth again, uttering wretched screams, and swooped towards them.

Mr Zhao wielded his Peach Wood Sword, charging ahead, but the sword shattered upon impact, and Mr Zhao was flung away, landing on the ground, coughing up blood.

"This fierce ghost has gathered many evil spirits; Miss Yu, you’re right, even I am no match for it."

Mr Zhao chuckled wryly, "I’ve studied for so long to no avail, unable to defend against it. Miss Yu, be careful!"

Yu Nianzhao remained indifferent to the fierce ghost, calmly moving forward, while the ghost split its bloody mouth wide, ready to swallow her whole.

Yu Nianzhao lightly uttered two words, "Jiu!"

Jiu Ying’s soul crept out from her back, forming an intangible shadow towering above, with nine heads looking down at the fierce ghost.

Under the scrutiny of nine pairs of blood-red eyes, the fierce ghost trembled, its bloody mouth just inches from Yu Nianzhao’s proximity, caught in indecision whether to bite or not!

It was a fear stemming from the very soul.
