CHAPTER 36: CHAPTER 35: HELLISH KARMIC FIRE!

"Why are you glaring at me? It’s not us who drove you to suicide. Do you even understand what ’the debts have their own masters’ means?"

Stared down by the ghostly eyes, Yu Nianzhao stepped forward and slapped each of the ghosts hard, leaving them bewildered, exchanging confused glances.

What is this all about?

Even ghosts can get beaten up now?

Watching as the fierce ghosts’ gaze became somewhat clearer, Dongfang Chenyuan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly hid behind Yu Nianzhao.

"You’re all still so young, yet you insist on getting involved in such a toxic pit. Serves you right, tasting your own bitter fruit and you still want to scare me? With such heavy resentment, shouldn’t you be looking for the real culprit?"

Dongfang Chenyuan tightened the talisman in his hand, took out a black cloth bag, and sneered at them, "Hehehe, try and look fierce one more time, and I’ll tuck you all into this bag and show you what it means to be locked in a small dark room."

"Are you a disciple of the Dongfang Family?"

A clear, cold voice echoed, as one of the three ghosts, a handsome young man, fixed his gaze on Dongfang Chenyuan. "Since you’re from a line of mystical families, you ought to help us get revenge."

Dongfang Chenyuan raised an eyebrow, "Why should I help you get revenge? Weren’t you just about to attack me indiscriminately?"

His eyes turned sharp, "Prince Su is your master, right? They’re targeting Prince Su. Helping me is helping Prince Su!"

Yu Nianzhao looked at his deathly aura and handsome face, speaking softly, "You must be Wei Zhao."

Wei Zhao paused, warily asking, "Who exactly are you?"

Dongfang Chenyuan proudly said, "She is our Princess Consort Su, whose mastery of metaphysics surpasses even mine."

Wei Zhao murmured, "Princess Consort Su?"

Yu Nianzhao said directly, "Revenge? Sounds nice, but for someone so young, you’re quite scheming. Did you think I wouldn’t know what you’re plotting? You just want to use us to deal with someone who might have your whole family killed."

Wei Zhao’s face drastically changed, his eyes turned fierce as he growled at Yu Nianzhao like a beast, "What do you know? This is all my doing, it has nothing to do with my family!"

He shook the golden net, struggling to crawl toward Yu Nianzhao.

His resentment transformed into a cold wind that whipped around with a ’hoo hoo hoo’ sound.

"Your obsession is your family, but the ones who have placed you in this predicament are also your family!"

Yu Nianzhao looked down coldly at him crawling to her feet, pointing a finger at his forehead, easily pushing Wei Zhao back as if he were an ant, without any resistance.

"Boo hoo hoo..."

He finally realized he had no ability to fight back against Yu Nianzhao, crouching by her feet pleading, "Please, do not harm my family. The Wei Family is just a floating weed on the sea, ready to be overturned at any moment. Both I and my family are being used."

Yu Nianzhao looked down at him condescendingly, letting out a soft laugh, "So, do you admit that you willingly bore the little ghost? You knew it might turn back on you, and you still caused the deaths of so many of your fellow students. You know they’re dead because of you, right?"

"I..."

Wei Zhao’s words got stuck, as the two little ghosts next to him stared at him resentfully.

Crack! Crack!

An unusual sound came from nearby, accompanied by a slight breeze, and Yu Nianzhao caught whiff of a smell, her eyes narrowing, "We need to get out of here. Those crazy people want to destroy all the evidence."

Bang!

A serpent of fire swept in from the back door of Shangyuan Gambling House.

Red runes mixed in with the blazing flames, resembling menacing ghostly faces, ready to devour all the sinister spirits and fierce ghosts in Shangyuan Gambling House.

Dongfang Chenyuan’s face was solemn, "It’s an exceedingly powerful Fire Talisman, strong enough to turn fierce ghosts into ashes. The mastermind behind this clearly has no regard even for ghosts!"

Yu Nianzhao looked around, seeing a tattered oil-paper umbrella on the ground.

She picked up the umbrella and opened it, retracting the talismans covering Wei Zhao and the others, her voice cold, "Hurry and get inside if you don’t want to be reduced to ashes!"

Wei Zhao and the other two ghost figures quickly turned into a cloud of black mist and dived into the oily-paper umbrella.

After folding the umbrella closed, she saw the flames approaching fast.

"Princess Consort, this is no ordinary Fire Talisman. The blaze is spreading too quickly, we must hurry and leave, or we’ll be burned alive here."

Dongfang Chenyuan gritted his teeth and rushed to the door, only to find it securely locked, unbudging even when rammed.

"Someone must have slipped among the guards earlier and locked the door."

Yu Nianzhao’s eyes gleamed, her voice rising with excitement, "These people are really interesting. They actually want to kill me?"

In front of King Yan, wanting King Yanluo’s life?

The thought even excited her.

"Cough, cough, cough, Princess Consort, I’ll look for another exit!"

Dongfang Chenyuan coughed incessantly, choked by the thick smoke, as he pounded on the door, but the guards outside turned deaf, leaving them there to wait for death.

He already regretted it in his heart, wishing he hadn’t called the Princess Consort out.

If Prince Su found out, he might have the urge to grind Dongfang Chenyuan’s bones into dust.

"Dongfang Chenyuan, don’t worry, this Fire Talisman won’t kill me!"

Yu Nianzhao smiled brightly and arrogantly, "And I guarantee your safety. Not even the spirits of the dead can take your life."

Dongfang Chenyuan’s heart raced, yet somehow in such a dangerous moment, hearing her words brought him instant calm and unconditional trust in Yu Nianzhao!

Yu Nianzhao took an unconventional path; the flames had already consumed most of the gambling house.

She held the oil-paper umbrella, fearlessly walking towards the flames.

Dongfang Chenyuan was scared half to death, "Princess Consort..."

Then watched in disbelief as the flames, as if encountering something terrifying, fled in all directions, voluntarily opening up a path for Yu Nianzhao.

Yu Nianzhao turned back to cast a glance at him, "Is there something you need?"

"..."

Dongfang Chenyuan shook his head vigorously like a rattle drum.

"Aren’t you going to follow?"

"Yes, Princess Consort!"

Dongfang Chenyuan hustled to follow behind Yu Nianzhao, noticing that although the flames were scorching hot, they dared not come near her, "Princess Consort, do you have some sort of treasure that keeps the Fire Talisman at bay?"

"The flames summoned by a Fire Talisman are nothing more than three kinds: Zhurong’s Fire, Samadhi True Fire, and Karmic Fire!"

Yu Nianzhao arrived at the back door, where she saw a shadow hiding by the doorway, her gaze turned cold, "This Fire Talisman is of the red lotus Karmic Fire from hell, potent against ordinary fierce ghosts, but to me, it’s like a tiny spell before a great sorcerer."

She chuckled coldly at the shadow, "Using Karmic Fire to harm people and ghosts, who gave you the guts to do this?"

Seeing they were discovered, the shadow behind the door filled with murderous intent, coldly brandished a sword, and decisively slashed horizontally.

Yu Nianzhao caught the blade between her fingers, glancing at the other’s death-filled face before decisively returning the strike.

Gaaahhh—

The sound of the blade slicing through flesh filled the air, a raspy cry escaped his throat, and blood splattered across her face, adding a touch of eerie allure!
