CHAPTER 382: 382 IN THE FIRST CYCLE
[OP: ]
(Academy: )
The students knew today was the day of the battle and that the empire that they knew about might change significantly after today’s events.
They knew the battle was not going to last for short since the fact that the two forces facing each other were great had already spread far and wide.
People knew how even if they emperor had the support of the six generals, the six highest ranking individuals after him on his side, they knew the fact that those possessing political powers were on the prince’s side.
Thus, both parties had forces large enough that the battle that would start now would most certainly not come to an end anytime soon.
"Grandma..."
{ "He already told me about the two of you, little one." }
The emperor’s victory was inevitable.
Everyone who did not know the fact that the other side was being aided by the thieves thought as such.
"...he did?"
{ "Believe me when I say this Cath... I’ve seen love. And I know how the eyes of the one who’s ready to burn the world for the one they love looks like." }
The inevitable result of the end of the crown prince was visible to every single person who was not on the battlefield and did not know the situation out there.
They knew what kind of force the emperor had and they knew logically there was no way the emperor of the great Barnacle empire, the ruler of the west and the master of the throne would ever lose to his own offspring.
The fall of the crown prince was inevitable... So even as the one who knew the fact that their side possessed a great allied force, she could not help but worry about the one who, amidst the blinding fog, had accompanied her to a brighter side.
{ "There are those in this world who love, darling. And there are also those who fight for their love. But then again... there are those who do crazy things for this love. Crazy things that are beyond the limitations of morality, values, norms, or ethics." }
Crown Prince had a close friend in the academy that was talking with her grandmother, someone who might be able to change the course of both their fate.
{ "That ’friend’ of yours you’re so worried about dear... is one of those crazy people." }
However, from what she was saying, it seemed like she had no intention of interfering with this battle in any way.
{ "He’s a crazy person who knows what he is doing. Someone who is doing something despite the negative odds...
Do you know why he’s doing it? Something so foolish?" }
"I..."
She couldn’t answer her grandmother’s question since she herself did not know the answer to it... or perhaps she did know the answer, but it was something so absurd that even she couldn’t believe how she could think about such a thing.
{ "I don’t like the fact that someone related to that bastard wants my dear granddaughter that much, but the fact that he is willing to go rogue like that just to be with you is enough to earn my approval.
Additionally, he knows what it would mean if any of the people from the outside intervened during their battle.
Not just me, he had already gone around the continent making agreements with the other people in power to not interfere with this battle.
And you don’t have to worry about the thieves that are helping him..." }
She knew her granddaughter more than anyone else.
They had been together ever since she came to this world and she cherished her more than the very relic of the ancient times that their kind protected.
She knew her, and though she did not know much about the one that wanted to be with her, she knew at least enough to accept the foolish thing that he was doing to be with her.
"What... do you mean by that, grandma?"
The fact that Cathy had awakened as a saintess was only known to her direct family and the higher ups of the academy.
It was a vital information that would decide the fate of this world’s future.
And her grandmother knew this fact as well so, she wanted to protect her from exactly ones like that emperor bastard.
{ "Haha, as I said, you don’t have to worry about his connection with those people.
You see, all their acts until now considered, they aren’t actually evil like the emperor that He is going to face.
On the contrary, they are actually the kind of people that this fleeting world needed... well, their methods are unorthodox, I’d say, however they aren’t after riches or wealth or preservation of the world like the others.
From what we have seen, observed, and concluded, they are much more sophisticated and professional than even our Guardian soldiers.
If I needed to describe them in a few words, I’d say they are like a bunch of well trained employees." }
She was a little surprised to see her grandmother talk so much today since she had rarely seen her being that talkative.
It was a rare sight for her, but, considering the uniqueness of this situation, it wasn’t that hard to believe that the grand elvan sorceress was actually praising someone.
Their chat was about the group that was aiding the prince in this battle, and though this was only early morning of the day of the, battle, the first solar cycle according to this world’s common division of time, the battle was going to start soon.
"Grandma..."
She wanted her grandmother to help him even though they had someone like those people on his side, but at the end, she couldn’t stop worrying.
There was no one there that she could trust to protect his life and there was no one there that she would ever want to look after his back.
She was anxious and she was worried...
{ "He will come back, dummy. What did I say earlier? He isn’t doing this because he has the support of those thieves. No, that’s not the reason at all." }
The elvan princess looked up from at the crystal ball reflecting her grandmother’s eyes.
{ "I’m watching over the battlefield like the rest of the powers of this world, and from the looks of it, we kind of understand what his dumb reason might have been." }
The difference in the scale of their forces was too absurd for all the spectators of this war.
There was a human constructed army of heavily armoured units, while one the there hand were ancient undead, soldiers who did not fear death or had any emotions like the humans.
At this moment, both sides had marched to the front and were facing one another, waiting for the moment of horns to begin their attacks.
The battle had yet to start so they were at least following the basic rules of the war, however, neither side was going to waste too much time just sitting on that scorching barren field.
The thieves from the crown prince’s side had already started their plan while on the other side, the emperor had also started doing what he needed to do in order to have a fighting chance for this battle.
"You’re watching them?"
{ "Of course we are watching them. The entire world is paying attention to this battle." }
Not just to see the strengths that the new owners of the ancient fortress, but to also see just what kind of individuals these people were to successfully drive the emperor to this point.
As a young person, she might not understand what was actually going on behind the scenes but her grandmother was one of the six sovereign powers of this world.
She also lived in the western continent but she was only allied with the empire because there was no other way for the peaceful elves of the forest to live in this world.
They weren’t strong enough to fight against some powerful army since their numbers were small, and, even if there might be some exceptionally powerful individuals among them, the enemy kingdoms with enough numbers could certainly cause them irreparable damage.
And they could not have it... so, they were allied with the most formidable nation of the continent and had a solid protection against the outside forces.
And, she wasn’t the only one tied in this bitter relationship with that damned empire.
The rest of the world was the same since the emperor had one way or the other secured their unique place in this world.
The lands that he had acquired either belonged to some other forces in the past or were governed by strong natural forces like the demons or energy beasts of the higher orders.
Some of them were considered divine beings and were praised by the surrounding areas but, the empire took them away by taking the lives of those divine beings earning an unquenchable ire of their worshipers.
In this world, there were very few forces or people who actually liked the empire or had any kind of positive relationship with them.
The others, on the other hand, were merely in an unwanted contractual relationship with them... or, with the emperor himself to be precise.
They did not like how the emperor worked in the first place so, for a long long time... they had wished, prayed, and begged the heavens for his merciless death.
So, a battle that, for the first time in forever was indicating at the possibility of his demise... who in this world would not be watching over this grand battlefield?
{ "Well, what we are seeing right now is absurd and more than what we had previously predicted, but... this makes this fun." }
The opponents had more formidable forces than they had previously predicted.
And if that wasn’t enough... they had someone that could operate this entire force much better than what any of them had experienced to witness on this old battlefield.
