CHAPTER 160: CHAPTER 160: THE LETTER LEFT BY FATHER

Nanny Wood looked at Seraphina Sinclair standing before her, and for a moment, overwhelmed with emotion, she didn’t know how to begin: "It really is you, Miss. I thought this old woman wouldn’t see you again in this lifetime."

From a young age, Seraphina Sinclair had been raised by Nanny Wood, who had been responsible for feeding her, basically acting as Seraphina’s half mother.

"How could it be, Nanny Wood? Let me introduce you; this is my son, Jude Sinclair." Seraphina Sinclair calmed her excited emotions and spoke to Jude Sinclair and Desmond Fairchild.

Upon hearing this, Nanny Wood immediately looked at Jude Sinclair, walked over kindly, and after observing Jude for a moment, said, "Oh, those eyes look exactly like yours when you were little."

It was the first time anyone had said Jude looked like her, and Seraphina smilingly squinted her eyes. "Jude, call her Grandma Wood."

Jude obeyed and called out, and Nanny Wood responded tremblingly. After chatting with Seraphina for a while, Nanny Wood went into the kitchen.

When it was time to eat, the dishes brought out from the kitchen were all Seraphina Sinclair’s childhood favorites.

After dinner, Zoe Yates chatted with Jude Sinclair on the sofa, while Seraphina went to the kitchen to find Nanny Wood.

"Nanny Wood, is Mr. Jacobs here too?" Seraphina asked.

"Yes, Miss Yates is kind-hearted. She kept us both here and said you’d definitely want to find him when you came today. He’s in the backyard now," replied Nanny Wood.

Returning her gratitude for Zoe Yates’ thoughtfulness, Seraphina then went to the backyard, and as expected, she found Mr. Jacobs there.

After reminiscing for a while, Seraphina revealed the purpose of her visit: "Mr. Jacobs, you were always by my father’s side. Do you remember if anyone ever entered his room and tampered with his things?"

Mr. Jacobs, hearing her question, immediately replied, "Yes, I caught that scoundrel Ethan Lloyd sneaking out of the old master’s room a few times. I mentioned it to the master, and afterward, he installed surveillance in the room. But just after that, he passed away."

Upon hearing about the surveillance, Seraphina became excited; if there was indeed surveillance and it captured Ethan Lloyd switching her father’s medication, then...

"Miss, are you suspecting that the master’s death was suspicious?" Mr. Jacobs asked, seeing her expression.

"Yes, although my father’s heart wasn’t the best, he was on medication to control it. There was no reason for a sudden death." Seraphina nodded.

"I was always with the master; how could I not be aware of his health? It’s just a pity that I was too insignificant to do anything. If there’s any way you need my help, just let me know, miss," Mr. Jacobs sighed.

Seraphina nodded, "Mr. Jacobs, be sure you and Nanny Wood take care of yourselves."

"Ah, Nanny Wood and I are already getting old. We’re planning to return to our hometown for retirement in a year or two," Mr. Jacobs said, waving his hand.

Seeing this, Seraphina didn’t persuade Mr. Jacobs to stay. After chatting with him for a bit, she returned to the living room to bid farewell to Zoe Yates.

After leaving the Sutton Family home, Seraphina instructed the driver to take Jude home while she went to the old Sinclair estate. Zoe Yates had mentioned that the estate had originally been up for mortgage, but she had bought it back.

Considered how she wanted to reclaim the old house, Zoe’s words instantly resolved her problem.

As the familiar house appeared at the end of her sight, Seraphina was overwhelmed with a sense of trepidation about returning to her childhood home.

Zoe Yates had always assigned someone to tend to the Sinclair estate. The roses planted back then were wildly thriving on their own.

Especially once she opened the door and walked inside, the interior was exactly as she remembered, causing Seraphina’s tears to fall immediately. She always felt as if her father would push open the study door any second, and invite her downstairs for a meal, with Nanny Wood placing her favorite dishes, while Mr. Jacobs looked at her, smiling.

She turned her head to look at a nearby table, where there was a framed photo of her and her father. To Seraphina, her mother was a hazy concept; from childhood to adulthood, her memories were filled only with her father.

"Dad..." Seraphina murmured as she gazed at the photo, unable to resist reaching out to touch her father’s face.

Sniffling, Seraphina wiped her tears away, exhaled a deep breath, then familiarized herself with going upstairs and opening her father’s bedroom door, before beginning her search for the surveillance.

After the incident years ago, many things in the house had been taken away. Finding the surveillance now was initially just a hopeful attempt. However, upon finding the surveillance, Seraphina discovered a storage card hidden in the gap between it and the wall.

After much effort, Seraphina retrieved the storage card, and besides her father, no one else could have placed it there.

Seraphina opened the second drawer of the nightstand and deftly found the red string-tied key hidden in a corner, then carefully moved the pillow on the bed to reveal the locked compartment, using the key to unlock it.

This was where Mr. Sinclair stored important items. When she was young, Seraphina loved playing in her father’s room, gradually figuring this out.

After unlocking it, she found a small redwood box containing a bank card and a letter, undoubtedly meant for her.

Even after a thorough search, she couldn’t find the medication her father regularly took and had no choice but to temporarily give up.

Taking a deep breath, Seraphina barely held back her tears again, carefully placing the storage card in her bag. Before leaving, she took the picture frame from the table.

After returning from the Sinclair estate, Seraphina eagerly opened the letter to see the familiar handwriting.

"Seraphina, my dear, I don’t know when you’ll read this letter. In a flash, you’ve grown up, and in the days to come, I may not be able to protect you anymore.

Ethan Lloyd is an ambitious man with no scruples; for such a major action, he won’t let me off easily. You are the only one I can’t let go of, but I trust you will find a way to live safely.

In this letter, I’ve included one of the medications I regularly take, though I always suspected it had been tampered with. If you see this letter, have the medicine tested. The storage card behind the surveillance is also mine; I merely didn’t have time to watch the footage.

After discovering the truth, I don’t want you to seek revenge on my behalf. I just want to tell you that if I ever leave, it isn’t your fault. I only wish for you to live peacefully and safely.

The bank card next to the letter is for you. It’s enough money for you to live well.

Don’t worry about me; take care of yourself, live happily, and only then can I rest assured."
