CHAPTER 294: CHAPTER 294: I CAN’T GO

Nina Kerr doesn’t want to face reality; she doesn’t think there’s anything inferior about herself compared to Seraphina Sinclair. How is a single mom better than her? She truly can’t understand.

After Desmond Fairchild left, he went straight to Quentin Jennings’ apartment.

Seeing the unfavorable expression on his boss’s face, Quentin couldn’t help but joke, "What’s up with you, President Fairchild? Looking like this, who ticked you off?"

"Have that group made any moves recently? We’ve stayed on Diamond Island too long; it’s time to retreat." Desmond narrowed his eyes slightly, steering the conversation directly back on track.

Quentin also ditched the playful attitude and replied seriously, "The other side is very cautious; there hasn’t been any movement in the past month or two. I fear the information might be wrong, so I had someone check again, confirming the final trading location is indeed Diamond Island. As for the time, it’s still under consideration. The other party probably intends to adapt to the situation, still undecided on the transaction timing."

"Is there any news from Natalie Summers?" Desmond pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, and Quentin immediately handed him a light.

Quentin promptly replied, "There’s temporarily no news. Eric Holt hasn’t shown any activity recently, so we can more confidently ascertain that he’s involved in this underground trade. Currently, he’s in a dormant phase. But we have already found out that last time when she was attacked, it was his doing, aiming to lure you in."

On that note, Quentin retracted the hand that was lighting a fire for Desmond, hesitantly saying, "Actually, I think distancing yourself from her is not a wise choice. Eric isn’t foolish; he’s quite clever, or he wouldn’t painstakingly try to draw you out. However, from the last incident, you can see he doesn’t truly believe you’ve fallen for someone else. He persists in considering her to be your Achilles’ heel."

From the very start, he did not agree with Desmond’s approach; Desmond was adamant, leaving Quentin unable to stop him.

Now they’ve found this method to be ineffective, so Quentin wishes Desmond not to persist any longer and should quickly go to get Seraphina back, or else if things drag on, Eric won’t believe he’s in love with someone else, but Seraphina becomes firmly convinced, then that’s a disaster.

"She no longer belongs to me." Desmond smiled bitterly, recalling Seraphina’s eyes, containing nothing but indifference; he realized she had already let him go.

"Nonsense, if the person I liked was showing off with another woman in front of me every day, I’d also give up even if I liked them a lot. The point is, do you still want to be with her? If you do, anything is possible." Quentin knew what Desmond had in mind, was probably worried that Seraphina would reject him.

But women are always women; moreover, facing someone who once loved him deeply, no matter what, she couldn’t truly give up on him.

As long as you’re willing to put in the effort, winning back Seraphina is just a matter of time.

Desmond pondered for several seconds, deeply gazing at Quentin, "What should I do?"

"At least sever ties with Nina Kerr first. Since we didn’t successfully make Eric target Nina, she has no reason to exist. Besides, working with someone like her is lowering our standards. Apart from playing small tricks, she doesn’t seem like the type you’d be interested in." Quentin believed even bringing Natalie into this played would be more suitable than Nina.

Nina is indeed somewhat clever, but speaking from a big picture perspective, she’s nothing but a petty woman. Leave alone Desmond; even Quentin looks down on someone like Nina.

Eric isn’t truly foolish, naturally able to discern.

After all, Desmond is not ordinary; having such poor taste, anyone would find it odd.

"Now we’re in a dilemma; even if we sever ties with Nina, it’s probably not the right time. At least, wait until our issues are resolved on this end, then I’ll speak with Seraphina." Desmond sighed deeply, his frown showing a trace of frustration.

Indeed, he made a blunder, thinking it was the best way to protect her, who knew it was completely useless.

This was probably the most unsuccessful thing Desmond’s done over these years.

It also fully proves the saying that what you think is only what you think.

Suddenly, Quentin seemed to recall something, smiling as he said, "Actually, there are plenty of ways to reconcile with her. Isn’t Grandma hosting a charity auction tomorrow? Seize this opportunity to earn some goodwill; things might get simpler after that."

"I’m not planning to attend tomorrow’s auction," Desmond replied, taking a drag of his cigarette.

"Why not? Grandma obviously created this chance for you; how could you not go?" Quentin asked, perplexed, "Is there anything more important than her?"

Desmond shook his head, "Grandma suddenly organizing this charity auction is not for me."

"Outside, it’s widely rumored that Grandma is hosting this to find you a match, so..."

"Grandma has more than just one grandson."

When Desmond said this, Quentin suddenly realized, "If speaking of grandchildren, only you and Eric count as Grandma’s grandsons. Besides, there are your aunt’s kids, but it seems impossible for her to arrange a marriage for them; is it for Eric?"

"How is that possible? Grandma has always been wary of Eric’s status, unwilling to even admit him as part of the Fairchild Family. How could she organized a grand auction for him?" Quentin found it utterly unrealistic.

Desmond wasn’t surprised, calmly stating, "Grandma has the kindest heart; though it’s unclear what means Eric used, at least he can now speak a few words in front of her."

"Natalie hasn’t reported anything about this." Quentin furrowed his brows tightly if that’s the case, then it’s bad.

"Follow up with Natalie on that; you attend tomorrow’s auction." Desmond extinguished the cigarette in his hand, instructing Quentin.

Quentin shook his head, "No matter what, you must go. If this auction is truly for Eric, then you must attend. Just in case he goes mad, causing harm to her at the auction, your presence will somewhat hold him in check."

"If I’m there, he won’t take any action." Desmond’s eyes deepened, his mind occupied with unknown thoughts.

Quentin instantly understood, "You mean to lure him out?"

"Go ahead with it," Desmond said blandly.

"Understood." Quentin’s heart was delighted, realizing Desmond had already planned this, so this auction is bound to force Eric to appear.

Since Eric returned to the country, he’s been operating in the shadows, never showing his face.

If this auction organized by Grandma is related to him, Eric will likely appear in person. If she’s present and he acts, it will just prove whether he’s still interested in her.

If his target shifts to Nina, that would be naturally preferable.

If he doesn’t, still starting with Seraphina, it just happens to pull him out.

Now they find themselves in the open while the enemy hides, which is highly unfavorable for Desmond. If Eric is drawn out, with both on open grounds, everything will be much easier.
