CHAPTER 42: CHAPTER 42: PHYSICAL EXAMINATION

The next day, Seraphina Sinclair took Desmond Fairchild to the hospital where they had an appointment early in the morning.

Quentin Jennings rushed into Desmond Fairchild’s office with documents in hand, only to find it empty. He quickly called Desmond.

The doctor was inquiring about their usual health conditions when Desmond’s phone suddenly rang. He pointed towards the door, indicating that he would step out to take the call.

Seraphina didn’t think much of it and nodded.

"What’s up?" Desmond walked into the hallway and answered the call.

On the other end, Quentin’s voice was urgent, "Boss, I heard Ethan Lloyd has gotten in touch with Kevin and they’re meeting this afternoon!"

"Today?" Desmond frowned, surprised at how quickly Ethan Lloyd had moved.

"Got it. I’ll be back this afternoon. Just prepare the proposal for the collaboration with Kevin at the office."

"Alright, I’ll prepare it. Come back soon," said Desmond, ending the call and returning inside.

The check-up involved some routine tests, including a blood test. Seraphina originally just wanted Desmond to get checked, but to avoid making him overthink, she filled out a form for herself and joined him in the check-up.

When it came time for the blood draw, Seraphina watched the thick, long needle pierce into Desmond’s elbow. Desmond’s expression remained unchanged and calm.

The doctor removed the needle, which was now beaded with blood, causing Seraphina to shiver involuntarily.

Desmond got up and gave the seat to Seraphina, but she stood still, brows slightly furrowed, feet hesitant.

The doctor urged, "Miss Sinclair, it’s your turn now."

Seraphina snapped back to reality, reluctantly sat down, and extended her arm.

As the doctor tied a tourniquet around her arm, Seraphina gritted her teeth, convincing herself that it would be over in a moment, that it wouldn’t hurt, all the while turning her head to avoid looking.

Feeling the cotton swab disinfecting her arm, Seraphina began to tremble slightly.

Seeing Seraphina so afraid of pain, Desmond couldn’t help but think of the large scars on her back, his eyes darkening.

How did she endure it back then?

Desmond took two steps forward, gently pulling Seraphina’s head into his embrace. His voice was tender, "Be good, it won’t hurt, it’ll be over soon."

Seraphina was stunned, the faint mint scent from Desmond reached her nose. Her heart skipped a beat, and by the time she regained her senses, the doctor had already removed the needle, and Desmond reached over to help press the cotton down.

The doctor looked at the couple, envious, "Miss Sinclair, your boyfriend is really considerate."

"Not my boyfriend." Seraphina’s face flushed, but before she could finish speaking, Desmond interrupted, "He’s her husband."

Seraphina glanced at Desmond, thought for a moment, found nothing to refute, and let it go.

Soon enough, everything was done. The doctor instructed them to return next week for the results and let the two leave.

It was still early, not even twelve o’clock. They returned home, and the house was quiet. Young Jude was away at kindergarten.

Seraphina went upstairs to change her clothes, took her bag, and was about to leave when Desmond suddenly pulled her back. Seraphina turned, her eyes carrying a hint of confusion, "Is there something else?"

"Remember to have lunch. You just had blood drawn, if you feel dizzy, have a piece of chocolate." Desmond somehow produced two pieces of chocolate and handed them to Seraphina.

Seraphina felt a warmth in her heart, took the chocolate, put it in her bag, and then left.
