CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: WHAT’S THE TRICK UP HIS SLEEVE?

Seraphina Sinclair noticed Melanie Lloyd at the banquet, and when she saw her, her eyes darkened slightly. She couldn’t help but feel a bit agitated, fearing that this woman would stir up trouble again tonight.

As expected, after a few rounds of drinks, Melanie Lloyd approached with a fragile demeanor, holding a wine glass.

"Seraphina, I really didn’t expect to meet you here. I came over specially to toast to you," Melanie said softly.

Seraphina listened to her words with no reaction, crossing her arms and watching her leisurely, as if viewing a clown.

Melanie nearly ground her teeth, seeing her behave this way.

What she hated most was Seraphina’s attitude, as if everything she did was merely child’s play in her eyes.

Yet her face maintained a soft, pitiable expression.

"Oh, by the way, I owe you a thank you," Melanie took a deep breath, suppressing her anger, with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

"Thank you? I don’t know what you have to thank me for," Seraphina raised an eyebrow, puzzled.

Melanie sneered slightly, moving closer to Seraphina, her voice full of malice: "Thanks for giving Ethan Lloyd, such a good man, to me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be this happy now."

Seraphina’s eyes darkened. She remembered every incident from the past, yet this woman dared to flaunt them as her achievements. It seemed she had let them live too peacefully recently.

Seraphina stepped back to maintain a distance, her previously calm gaze turned sharp: "If it’s because of this, there’s no need to thank me. After all, you two are really a perfect match—a shameless couple."

Melanie put on a pitiful look, her eyes reddening: "Seraphina, are you blaming me? I indeed did wrong in the past, but you cheated first. Besides, didn’t you put me in the detention center a few days ago to vent your anger? Isn’t that enough?"

As Melanie spoke, she became slightly agitated, grabbing Seraphina’s hand, her voice losing control.

Those nearby naturally heard the whole story. Melanie’s detention was a widely-discussed topic, and some attendees had heard about it.

"I vaguely remember it was the Kevin Group that got Melanie into the detention center, right? I didn’t expect it to be her?"

"Seems like it was. This issue seems pretty serious."

"I’ve always been a bit confused. Turns out it’s a story of two women fighting over a man."

People whispered, and Felix Miller, amidst the crowd, was somewhat surprised by what he heard. He hadn’t imagined things were like this. This woman seemed to have an overly complicated past.

Finished, Desmond Fairchild probably got tricked?

Thinking of this, Felix couldn’t hold back and discreetly took out his phone to send a message to Desmond Fairchild.

With everyone focused here, Melanie felt even more triumphant, and she offered a glass of champagne to Seraphina:

"Seraphina, since that’s the case, let’s not dwell on the past. Let’s drink and let bygones be bygones, shall we?"

Seeing Melanie’s persistent behavior, Seraphina only felt disgusted.

She smiled briefly, took the drink, and after watching Melanie down hers in one go, poured hers onto the ground: "Your toast is only worth drinking this way. To me, it’s as if you’re already dead."

Melanie trembled with anger, almost ready to pounce on her and slap her.

Felix suppressed his amusement. This woman indeed had flair, but since she was Desmond Fairchild’s woman, he feared trouble if she got hit in front of him, so he stepped out from the crowd.

"Miss Lloyd and the Kevin Group have such a connection? Since it’s fate that we meet, let’s have a drink together," Felix said calmly with a glass in hand, addressing Melanie.

Melanie recognized Felix Miller, and even though he ran a small company, his family’s political background made him a significant figure—someone she usually couldn’t cozy up to.

She was flattered that Felix would drink with her, and immediately lifted her glass, smiling obsequiously: "Young Master Miller, I toast to you."

Everyone present understood Felix’s intention, and they began clinking glasses among themselves.

Thus, the matter was temporarily put to rest.

Felix, however, wanted to gather some information about Seraphina and kept engaging Melanie. After a few drinks, Melanie couldn’t handle her liquor and excused herself to the restroom.

Seeing that there was no more drama to watch and having almost finished their meals, attendees lost interest and returned to their conversations.

Just as Seraphina was about to leave, Ethan Lloyd suddenly appeared before her.

"Seraphina, I want to talk to you. Could you come with me for a moment?" Ethan said softly, looking at her with tender eyes.

If Seraphina were the same person from before, she might have fallen for it. But now, everything was different.

Still, she was curious about what Ethan was up to, so she didn’t refuse and followed him to the balcony.

"I’m sorry, I apologize for what Melanie said earlier. She’s sometimes too impulsive; don’t take her words to heart," Ethan said, but his eyes kept roaming over Seraphina’s body.

Seraphina was evidently dressed up tonight, with her wavy long hair flowing over her shoulders, looking stunning, and Ethan found his heart wandering.

"If that’s all you wanted to say, there’s no need. I consider her words as a dog’s bite. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving," Seraphina said coldly after he finished speaking.

"Seraphina, it’s getting chilly now, take care of yourself. Don’t dress so lightly," Ethan quickly caught her as she was leaving, removing his jacket to drape over her shoulders, his hand inadvertently grazing her slender waist.

Before Seraphina could evade, a familiar voice rang out from behind, brimming with anger: "What are you doing!"
