CHAPTER 72: CHAPTER 72: PICK IT UP

"Pick it up."

"What?"

"I told you to pick it up," Morgan Fairchild said, enunciating each word.

Seraphina Sinclair frowned, feeling quite uneasy, and couldn’t help but glance at her, saying coldly, "I respect you as Desmond Fairchild’s aunt, but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want here!"

Not to mention how this woman found her way here, secondly, on what grounds should she pick it up? After all, this was her territory!

"Why are you looking for him?" Seraphina Sinclair questioned with a frosty face, maintaining her dignity. She had now come to realize that the other party would only see her humility as a chance to encroach.

Morgan Fairchild was shocked, not expecting Seraphina Sinclair to be so ungrateful. In a fit of rage, she suddenly stood up, wanting to slap her, but accidentally stepped on shattered glass, lost her balance, and fell onto it.

Her hand touched the glass pieces, cutting into Morgan Fairchild’s palm, leaving a moderate-sized wound that started to bleed.

Morgan Fairchild screamed, looking at Seraphina Sinclair with eyes as if filled with poison.

Serves you right!

Seraphina Sinclair acted as if she hadn’t seen anything, folding her arms across her chest.

The maid let out a shriek, and suddenly seeing Desmond Fairchild appear at the doorway, she cried out in a panic, "Mr. Fairchild!"

He had just returned from Lyndale, looking somewhat travel-worn. What he didn’t expect was to come back to such a scene, feeling somewhat displeased.

"What’s going on here?" Desmond Fairchild narrowed his eyes, astonished to see his aunt had fallen on broken glass with her hand injured, while Seraphina Sinclair just stood there doing nothing.

"Mommy!" Jude Sinclair broke free from Desmond Fairchild’s grasp and ran to Seraphina Sinclair’s side, "Mommy! What happened with you guys?"

"It’s nothing, just a pesky fly buzzing around," she said, with a pointed look at Desmond Fairchild, her eyes full of coldness and indifference.

Seeing this, a sinking feeling settled in him.

These days, he had worked hard to stabilize his image in Seraphina Sinclair’s mind, but now an outsider had ruined it, making him quite unhappy. Even his gaze towards his aunt was filled with impatience.

Jude Sinclair glared angrily at the woman while dragging Seraphina Sinclair and pulling her up to the room upstairs.

Morgan Fairchild shivered from Desmond Fairchild’s angry shout, unaware of his source of anger, assuming he was just in a bad mood as usual. She feigned grievance and explained her reason for coming.

"How did you find out I was here?" He asked coldly, his tone unfriendly.

After all, the fact that he lived here was only known by his grandmother, so who let the news slip out?

Hearing this, Morgan Fairchild’s heart sank a little, flattering him slightly, "Desmond, your aunt’s here to visit you, don’t be so distant—"

As she spoke, she felt a chill. She had never been close to her nephew, let alone received any warmth from him.

"Heh, whether it’s to visit or ask for money, Aunt, I’m afraid you know better than anyone!" Having said that, Desmond Fairchild turned to leave, assuming Seraphina Sinclair was still waiting for an explanation from him.

Not to mention the "kept" thing about him, next is how to explain the little one’s appearance. Although his grandmother knew and was pleased, there was no assurance these scheming relatives wouldn’t act.

After all, they’ve been coveting his position for more than just a day or two.

"Desmond, wait a moment!" Morgan Fairchild disregarded her hand injury and hurried after him to explain urgently, "My company has hit a financial snag recently, and I need you to allocate some funds—"

No good deed goes unpunished.

Upon hearing this, Desmond Fairchild’s anger burned intensely.

"Allocate funds?" Desmond Fairchild’s face turned icy. Morgan Fairchild had come to him several times about this issue, and that company wouldn’t be in its current state if she hadn’t hired those unreliable people. Last time, the funding issue even made Old Mrs. Fairchild sick for several days.

Morgan Fairchild nodded quickly, terrified of causing Desmond Fairchild any displeasure.

Yet the response she got was blunt and harsh, "Get out."

"Desmond!" Morgan Fairchild was shocked, "You can’t just stand by and do nothing; this is your grandfather’s company, years of his hard work..."

"You know it’s my grandfather’s hard work? Then why didn’t you manage it well back then? Every time something went wrong, you came to me for support. As an elder, you should act like one!" Desmond Fairchild’s words were devoid of emotion, "Also, Aunt, can you explain what exactly happened earlier?"

In fact, he most wanted to ask if she said anything she shouldn’t have.

Morgan Fairchild froze, thinking Desmond Fairchild was angry because of what happened before, still thinking it was for that woman. This made her feel even more unbalanced; she was his flesh and blood, how could he be biased towards an outsider!

"Speak." Desmond Fairchild glanced at the maid nearby, commanding with a sinister voice.

The maid stammered before detailing the incident, watching as Desmond Fairchild’s face grew darker and darker, exuding such a murderous aura that she couldn’t help but collapse to her knees.

"Just a mistress you’re keeping, can’t I give her an order?" Morgan Fairchild got upset, thinking as his aunt, what could he do to her?

Desmond Fairchild’s face was expressionless, "She is my fiancée, not someone you can order around!"

The invisible hostility made Morgan Fairchild’s mind waver, leaving her speechless.

Desmond Fairchild gave her a penetrating look.

"Aunt, the funding you requested is not happening. Today, in gratitude for you teaching my partner a lesson, I’ve decided to rescind the fifty million investment from last month as well, this gift called self-reliance, I hope you like it."

To Morgan Fairchild, this was a disastrous blow! This wasn’t just making her self-reliant, it was wanting her to go under! Without funds, all that awaits her company is bankruptcy!

"Desmond..."

"Escort her out." Desmond Fairchild turned away, instructing the servant, "If she refuses to leave, don’t treat her too kindly."

In the ensuing chaos, Morgan Fairchild was thrust out to the closed front door, seething with anger.

Seraphina Sinclair? Fine, she will remember her.

Jude Sinclair dragged Seraphina Sinclair to the room, made her sit on the bed, then somehow brought out a first aid kit half his size, and sat beside her, gently picking up her hand to examine it.

Even though Jude Sinclair was young, his mindset was like that of an adult.

Seraphina Sinclair didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. Clearly, she was the parent, yet, the roles reversed, and she was being taken care of. Thinking about this increased her sense of guilt towards Jude Sinclair.
