CHAPTER 84: CHAPTER 84: TALKING NONSENSE IN ONE’S SLEEP

On the phone screen was the contact page of Seraphina Sinclair, meticulously selected by him. He was still hesitating whether or not to make this call.

Until his gaze landed on the information brought by Lawson indicating that Seraphina Sinclair was single, Ethan Lloyd finally mustered the courage and dialed the number.

On the other side, Seraphina Sinclair had just woken up and was brushing her teeth with a toothbrush in her mouth.

When she heard the phone ringing in the room, she immediately ran out of the bathroom, intending to answer the call.

Unexpectedly, she bumped right into Desmond Fairchild, who was about to enter the bathroom.

Seraphina was already a bit shorter, and her head barely reached Desmond’s chest. Upon the collision, she instinctively fell backward.

Fortunately, Desmond’s reflexes were quick, and he pulled the petite woman into his arms, helping her maintain her balance.

"Oh, your phone."

The two stood frozen for a good while before Desmond reacted first and handed the phone to Seraphina.

Seraphina then smoothly took the phone, calming her emotions.

When she saw the incoming number, her expression instantly froze.

Although she hadn’t saved this number, Seraphina instantly knew who it belonged to. All these years, Ethan Lloyd’s number hadn’t changed, and this series of digits lingered in her mind like a curse.

But Seraphina couldn’t understand why this man suddenly called her privately. What was his intention?

"Why aren’t you answering the phone?" Desmond, noticing that Seraphina was engrossed in thought while holding the phone without picking it up, couldn’t help but curiously ask her.

Just as Desmond finished speaking, the phone in Seraphina’s hand rang again because it had not been picked up.

But quickly, the ringtone started ringing again repeatedly.

Out of no choice, Seraphina had to answer the call.

"Seraphina, are you busy? Why didn’t you pick up earlier?"

As soon as Seraphina answered the call, she heard Ethan Lloyd speaking to her in an extremely gentle tone, which made her get goosebumps all over.

Even when they used to be married, Ethan Lloyd had never spoken to her in such a manner, so in Seraphina’s eyes, everything this man did was the epitome of hypocrisy.

"Ethan Lloyd, do you think there’s a need for us to be polite with each other? Just say what you have to say straightforwardly."

To Seraphina, Ethan Lloyd’s existence was like a thorn in her eyes. Until that thorn was removed, Seraphina’s anger would remain unchecked.

Upon hearing Seraphina’s words, Ethan Lloyd felt uncomfortable to a certain extent. But who could deny that those past events had truly happened? He indeed had no strength to defend himself.

Soon, he changed the subject and gently asked, "It’s like this, our company has a new project and wants to discuss it with Kevin Group. Since the last collaboration fell through, perhaps this time you could do me a favor as an old friend?"

Ethan Lloyd’s words sounded as if they were merely old friends who hadn’t seen each other for a long time, but how could their relationship be that simple?

With a derisive laugh, Seraphina then lightly said, "Ethan Lloyd, you really think too highly of yourself, don’t you? And as for an old friend, do you think you deserve that title?"

Her earlier false courtesies were only to find out the whereabouts of the Su family and about her father’s past issues. Now that the Su family was in Desmond’s hands, plus the fact the last hotel incident involved Melanie Lloyd, Seraphina had no intention of acting submissively with these two anymore.

She would never board Ethan Lloyd’s treacherous ship again!

After hearing Seraphina’s words, there was a prolonged silence from Ethan Lloyd’s end.

He certainly didn’t expect that one day Seraphina would become so assertive.

But who could have predicted that the Lloyd Group would be on the decline year after year? If he didn’t seize this chance to collaborate with Kevin Group, the Lloyd Group’s situation might become more complicated than it already was.

Thinking of this, Ethan Lloyd immediately adjusted his mindset and, with an extremely amiable tone, said, "Seraphina, I was wrong about the past, but if you’re always stuck in the past, it won’t do any good for your mood. Let’s turn the page, shall we?"

"Ethan Lloyd, do you have any shame left? Stop daydreaming!"

The biggest reason Seraphina returned this time was to investigate the past events clearly and to ensure that Ethan Lloyd and Melanie Lloyd paid the price for their betrayal.

Austin was about to speak, but upon noticing the person beside him, he swallowed his words and focused his gaze on Desmond.

Desmond, being emotionally intelligent, instantly realized that Austin wanted him to give them some space.

After all, as of now, he was merely Seraphina’s nominal fiancé. In reality, his place in her heart might not be as important as Austin. Thinking of this, Desmond felt somewhat helpless. Who would have thought that the esteemed CEO of Cloudsea would face such a day?

"I’ll leave you two to talk." After leaving these words, Desmond promptly hurriedly left the scene.

Austin watched as the man disappeared down the hallway, directly down the stairs, and only then did he relax.
