Unlimited Resources: Raising a Minister with a Space Supermarket
Chapter 237: Kneel Down
CHAPTER 237: CHAPTER 237: KNEEL DOWN
Yu Xiaolian thought it would be good to buy some mixed-grain steamed buns to go back with. They’ve been eating white flour buns and drinking white rice porridge these days, and it’s spoiled some people’s appetites. She noticed that some of them were genuinely grateful to her, but some took her for a rich fool.
You shouldn’t overfeed a dog, and you shouldn’t be too good to people either.
Yu Xiaolian glanced at the steamer with the mixed-grain buns. There were five layers, each with about a dozen large buns.
The mixed-grain buns were made from a variety of grains mixed with a small amount of white flour, so they were gray-black in color and quite large, much larger than the buns Yu Xiaolian was used to from the supermarket.
"I’ll take all these mixed-grain buns. Pack them up for me."
After buying the mixed-grain buns, Yu Xiaolian found a secluded alley and took out a bag of corn grits from her storage space.
Corn grits are a type of coarse grain made from corn, which in modern times is quite a premium item, selling at a price comparable to rice. Yu Xiaolian decided to let these people eat coarse grain for a while first.
Even if Sun Daji’s wife hadn’t told her, Yu Xiaolian had already sensed some people’s true colors. It would take a month to get to Luocheng, and in this month, she could fully observe these people’s character and nature.
After arriving in Luocheng, she could better arrange for them.
The Sun family didn’t actually have any feelings for Sun Siyes’s family. Sending Yu Xiaolian on this trip was essentially for Sun Wuyes, but Sun Wuyes couldn’t bear to leave his fourth brother behind, so they went together.
In other words, Sun Siyes’s family was entirely riding on the coattails of Sun Wuyes’s family.
Yu Xiaolian bought several more steamers of mixed-grain buns from elsewhere and gathered around a hundred buns.
She and Su Jingchen handed the buns over to Sun Daji’s wife to distribute them.
"Hmph, they eat meat wontons themselves but give us black-faced buns," Sun Manyu said, loud enough for Yu Xiaolian to hear.
Yu Xiaolian turned around, surprised, "You’ve been following me?"
Sun Manyu had indeed been following Yu Xiaolian, but seeing Yu Xiaolian pulling Su Jingchen to eat meat wontons made her angry, so she ran back.
"If I wasn’t following you, how would I know you went off to eat something good by yourself? Aunt Chunfang gave you money to support us, not for you to eat alone, tui, how shameless you are."
Ever since Sun Manyu asked Yu Xiaolian about Su Jingchen’s family affairs and Yu Xiaolian refused to tell her, even going so far as to try and kick her off the carriage, Sun Manyu had been discontented with Yu Xiaolian.
And after seeing Yu Xiaolian take Su Jingchen to eat wontons, she was even angrier. Now, seeing Yu Xiaolian changing white flour buns to black-faced ones, she couldn’t hold back her anger any longer.
"I’m using my own money to eat wontons. If you have money, you can eat them too. You can not only eat for yourself, but also treat your parents, your siblings to eat.
Moreover, my mom told me to fetch my fifth granduncle’s family, not yours. If you’re unhappy with the mixed-grain buns, you can leave!" Yu Xiaolian retorted leisurely.
Sun Manyu was still holding two just-distributed mixed-grain buns in her hand, her face turning green and white. In a fit of anger, she threw the buns at Yu Xiaolian, "Then I just won’t eat them."
Yu Xiaolian sneered, "Making a big show about not eating, aren’t you leaving? If you have the guts, don’t follow us!"
Sun Manyu stuck out her neck and shouted, "Why should I leave? Everyone here is a Sun, only you’re a Yu. If anyone should leave, it’s you."
Yu Xiaolian looked around and smiled, "Then let’s ask everyone who should leave, shall we?"
"Hey, you two kids are arguing, talking about splitting up. Come on, calm down and eat, alright?"
Sun Dalin’s wife said with a silly smile to Yu Xiaolian, "You, little girl, why is your temper so big? Come on, stop being angry. Just eat wontons, nobody’s saying anything. Go inside."
Sun Dalin’s wife’s words were ostensibly persuading Yu Xiaolian not to get angry, but really she was telling everyone that Yu Xiaolian started the fight with Sun Manyu because she was caught eating wontons.
Yu Xiaolian directly looked at Sun Dalin’s wife, "Whether I eat wontons or roast chicken or go to a fancy restaurant for an eight-course meal, I’m spending my own money. Why should you have anything to say about it? Why have an opinion?"
Sun Dalin’s wife’s smile froze, awkwardly standing in front of Yu Xiaolian, and after a while, she said, "Yes, we shouldn’t have an opinion. If you eat better while we eat worse, that’s the way it should be, since it’s your money spent."
Sun Wuyes and the few older ones had been lying on the big communal bed already asleep but were awakened by the noise.
Sun Siyes came out with Sun Si Nainai’s cane, "Let me see, which little brat started the trouble again?"
Back in the village, he didn’t think his children and grandchildren were bad, but along the way, compared to those of his fifth brother’s kids, the difference became stark.
The kids of his fifth brother’s knew boundaries, didn’t speak out of turn, and had life in their eyes. Compared to his own, who were always squabbling and arguing, they were far from harmonious and friendly.
Sun Dalin’s wife saw her father-in-law coming angrily and quickly said, "Dad, the two kids were just bickering a bit. You go back and lie down. I’ll bring the buns to you later."
As soon as Sun Siyes saw the two buns on the ground, he shouted angrily, "Who threw them? Who did it?"
Sun Manyu was scared, hiding behind Sun Dalin, not daring to show her face.
Back when they were outside Bohai City, there were people from the city coming out and offering high prices to buy concubines. Her grandpa wanted to sell her then, and she knew he didn’t like her.
Now, seeing her grandpa angry, she wished to shrink into the ground so he wouldn’t see her.
As for throwing the buns, she didn’t dare admit it.
Sun Daji’s wife complained to Sun Siyes, "Fourth Uncle, the buns were thrown by your eldest granddaughter, Manyu. Little Lian kindly bought the buns, still warm, and she threw them because they weren’t white flour."
When Sun Siyes heard this, his anger flared up, and he waved his cane, rushing towards Sun Manyu.
Sun Manyu scurried around the room in fright.
Sun Dalin’s wife went to hold back Sun Siyes, "Dad, Manyu had her reasons for throwing the buns."
"What reasons? A full stomach’s reason! Nonsense reason!" Sun Siyes didn’t listen and insisted on beating Sun Manyu.
"Old man, old man, are you blind? Can’t you see she’s running all over the house? I’m over seventy, I can’t catch up to her?
Pin her down for me!" Sun Siyes shouted at Sun Dalin.
The room they were in had large communal beds on both sides. Calling it a room was more like calling it a big warehouse; in any case, it was very spacious.
Sun Manyu dodged around the room, and Sun Siyes really couldn’t catch her.
"Look at the brats you raised. Beat the third one, the third one runs. Beat the fifth one, the fifth one runs. Not one is easy to beat!"
Sun Dalin took a few strides forward, grabbed Sun Manyu, and said, "Kneel, kneel in front of your grandpa."
