CHAPTER 8: CHAPTER 8: RESIGNATION, I’M DONE!

When Mia Chapelle said this, she couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. She knew better than anyone that Zion Pence would definitely not want to publicly reveal his relationship with Holly Crowe.

She was just waiting for Holly to make a fool of herself!

After speaking, seeing that Holly hadn’t responded, she smugly shrugged her shoulders, covering her mouth in feigned regret, "Holly, I was just talking nonsense. If it’s inconvenient, forget it."

As soon as she said this, the people present all wore expressions as if they were watching a show.

Could it be that the rumors were true?

Holly’s fiancé is a middle-aged man over fifty with a bald spot?

Otherwise, why wouldn’t she let anyone see him?

Everyone’s curiosity was fully on display at this moment.

"Convenient, why wouldn’t it be?"

Holly’s voice was cold and sharp, catching Mia off guard, freezing the smile on her face instantly.

"Huh?... Holly, did your fiancé know you made this decision on your own?"

Mia blurted out in the heat of the moment, only realizing afterward that her words seemed inappropriate, like she knew something.

Holly thoughtfully responded with an "Oh."

"Assistant Chapelle, you’re quite interested in my personal life, huh? Instead, why not focus that energy on your work? I don’t want to see collaboration documents sent back three times again."

The atmosphere was a bit tense and confrontational.

A coworker nearby hurried to lighten the mood.

"Little Chapelle is just straightforward, no bad intentions."

"Yeah, yeah!"

Tingting, who had just started her internship and hadn’t heard the previous rumors, became curious when she heard Holly’s plan to reveal her fiancé. Because she received signals from nearby to help ease the situation, she spoke her mind before thinking.

"Hahaha, right, Holly. Your fiancé must be very handsome."

These words seemed to bring a few crows flying across the air.

Nearby, Lynch rubbed his forehead and smiled wryly.

Tingting then realized she might have said the wrong thing.

But it was too late to make amends.

Holly wasn’t bothered at all, tucked her hair behind her ear, and smiled, "He is, he’s very handsome!"

She looked directly at Mia’s stiff face, "I’ll bring him to the next company dinner, and you’ll all get to meet him. Remember to come, Assistant Chapelle. You can also bring your boyfriend."

She lightly glanced at Mia as she said the last few words.

"Wow! So the brother-in-law is a handsome guy!"

"I told you, with how pretty Holly is, her taste wouldn’t be lacking!"

"I’m starting to look forward to it. On the day of the dinner, I’ll bring my two-digit-day-wear contacts and keep my eyes wide open to catch every detail."

Exclamations came from the secretarial department.

After briefly giving some work instructions, Holly headed to her office.

As she passed by Mia, it sounded like she heard the sound of wrapping paper being torn.

After exchanging a few words, everyone gradually scattered, leaving Mia behind, gritting her teeth in frustration.

The flower wrapping paper had been crumpled into a ball by her, and she stared daggers in the direction Holly had left, her chest heaving with anger.

She had waited in the hotel all night last night, but Zion Pence never showed!

Where had he gone last night?

Why did he stand her up?

Today, Holly was dressed so beautifully and even boldly announced in front of everyone that she would bring her fiancé to the dinner.

Could it be....

Zion was with Holly last night.

Could they really be planning to go public with their relationship?

Realizing this, Mia was driven mad with jealousy. She went to her desk, threw the flowers into the trash can, and began manically dialing Zion’s number.

But no one answered.

.....

Since she had already decided to sever ties with Zion Pence, there was no point in staying at Pence Group any longer.

Back in her office, Holly logged into the company’s OA system and uploaded her resignation request.

She had to admit, over the past five years, Zion had indeed entrusted her greatly with work matters; sharing phone passwords, email passwords, company account passwords almost with her.

Almost all processes requiring Zion’s approval over the recent years were handled solely by her.

If she hadn’t discovered the dual system on his phone that day, she might still be immersed in this false "trust" dream.

Holly sneered, logging directly into Zion’s account to approve it.

Once the highest-level leadership agreed, the remaining process went by very quickly.

Seeing the green check mark that said "Approved" displayed, Holly slowly exhaled.

Finally, it’s ending.

Now, she only needed one last step to submit her resignation report, which required Zion’s handwritten signature.

She glanced at the time, directing her gaze to the floor-to-ceiling glass at the door.

Zion must be here by now.

It wasn’t long before she heard a heavy footfall approaching from the hallway.

Zion Pence entered the president’s office wearing a gloomy face, surrounded by a low-pressure aura unlike his usual composed demeanor, with slight dark circles under his eyes, a skewed tie, and subtle wrinkles on his suit hem.

Almost as soon as he appeared, Mia eagerly approached to curry favor, but before she could speak, a shout of "Get out!" sent her back several steps.

Holly, barely holding back a smile, shifted her gaze, feeling quite pleased.

Seems like last night’s report call was a success, even exceeding her expectations!

Though Zion hadn’t drunk much last night, it was still considered drunk driving. Given his status, if word got out that Beldon’s new business leader, the president of Pence Group, was caught for DUI, it would certainly impact the company.

So he would do anything to cover up this disgrace!

With an online meeting scheduled with overseas partners in half an hour, judging by his appearance, he hadn’t even changed clothes before rushing in.

Heh.

Zion Pence, did you think that was enough?

Holly logged out of the account, compiled a few documents needing Zion’s signature, and placed the freshly printed resignation letter within them, rising to head to his office.

Still fuming from Zion’s earlier outburst, Mia adopting a sarcastic tone upon seeing Holly approach, said, "Sister Crowe, President Pence said not to see anyone, you better not disturb him."

Holly didn’t even bother to spare a glance, not knocking, she pushed the door open and walked in.

Standing with his back to the door by the floor-to-ceiling window, talking on the phone, sunlight streamed in, casting his elongated silhouette.

His suit jacket was casually thrown on the sofa, shirt sleeves rolled up to the elbows, shoulders taut, veins visible at his right temple.

Holly knew Zion was in an extremely foul mood.

Looking at this familiar yet foreign man, for the first time, Holly felt perhaps he wasn’t so special, and how had she been so blind to it?

She closed the door behind her, not restraining the force.

Upon hearing the noise, Zion hung up the phone, shouting without turning around.

"Get out! I said don’t bother me!"

He finished speaking, turned around, his pupils constricting sharply upon recognizing her.
