Virtual Ascension: Awakening the Supreme Talent
Chapter 42 – Undead City
Around the area, solo players heading towards the Undead City were all in high spirits, chatting and laughing.
Player A: "I heard there are countless high-star treasure chests buried in the Undead City, and there's a chance to get set equipment!"
Player B: "Yeah, yeah, even before Apocalypse launched, I saw the official introduction of the Undead City map in the announcements. They said it's practically a treasure city for new players!"
Player C: "Really? Then we must make a big haul in the Undead City today!"
Player D: "Don't think it's that simple. I heard the monsters in the Undead City are much tougher than those of the same level outside. Just not dying in there would be good enough!"
Some players, with a bit of business acumen, treated this like a dungeon and started advertising at the entrance of the Undead City—
"Need a carry? You can join the team for just 2 Gold Coins! We have two spots left, with a Level 14 Mage ranked 125th in the district and a Level 14 Knight ranked 99th leading the way. We also have a healer. Loot will be rolled for distribution. Looking for two players to join, let's start!"
Seeing those players at the entrance of the Undead City trying to recruit others for a carry, Zhang Yi couldn't help but shake his head. With their skills, they'd be lucky to survive in the Undead City themselves, let alone carry others. They probably have no idea how fierce the Skeletons and undead monsters inside are.
Additionally, at the city gate of the Undead City, there stood a mysterious-looking NPC in a black robe, with a blue ID floating above his head—
Undead Merchant Ailo!
Another appealing aspect of the Undead City is that players can receive corresponding quests on this map. Besides hunting for treasures, they can also earn quest rewards, killing two birds with one stone.
The NPC that can trigger quests is this Undead Merchant, Ailo.
According to the rules, each player can only receive one quest from Ailo per day. The difficulty of the quest can be chosen by the player and must be completed within the day, or else they will face severe penalties.
At this moment, Ailo was already surrounded by players eager to receive their quests.
Thus, Zhang Yi also approached Ailo to initiate a conversation.
"Adventurer from Hope Town, are you ready to enter this perilous Undead City?"
"I'm ready."
As soon as Zhang Yi finished speaking, Ailo nodded: "Very well, come and receive your quest. Of course, you can also choose to enter the Undead City directly, but doing so will greatly reduce your rewards."
The only quest available from Ailo was: [Undead Requiem].
However, this quest can be divided into different difficulty levels based on the player's level. A Level 1 Undead Requiem has a difficulty coefficient of 100, suitable for new players just arriving at the Undead City to practice. The quest isn't very difficult; players just need to hunt a certain number of Skeletons and undead within a specified level range in the Undead City.
For each level increase in the quest, the difficulty coefficient increases by 100, and the level of Skeletons and undead required to be killed also rises.
It was already 7 PM, with only five hours left to refresh today's quest. So, players receiving quests didn't dare to choose too high a level, fearing they couldn't complete it in five hours. Most chose the Level 1-2 difficulty [Undead Requiem].
The Level 1 difficulty Undead Requiem requires killing 60 each of Level 15-16 [Skeleton Warriors], [Skeleton Archers], [Undead Mages], and [Undead Slayers].
However, for Zhang Yi, who, despite being only Level 13, had the strength of a Level 20 player, undertaking this Level 1 difficulty quest seemed like overkill.
Moreover, Zhang Yi's second Survival Quest [Advanced Quest] required completing three quests with a difficulty coefficient of 200 or more. The Level 2 [Undead Requiem] fit the bill.
Thus, Zhang Yi accepted a Level 2 quest.
"Ding~ You have received the quest [Undead Requiem] (Level 2 difficulty). You can view the details in the quest interface!"
[Undead Requiem] (Level 2 difficulty):
Quest Difficulty Coefficient: 200
Description: After the Alien vanguard massacred the city, Cloud City became an Undead City. The millions of humans who died tragically in Cloud City had their souls transformed into Skeletons and undead by the Alien leader [Rocky] and now guard the Undead City for the Aliens. Players are tasked with entering the Undead City to perform a requiem for these deceased human souls.
Quest Progress: Skeleton Warrior 0/90, Skeleton Archer 0/90, Undead Mage 0/90, Undead Slayer 0/90 (Note: Targets must be Level 17 or above)
Basic Quest Rewards: EXP 42,000, Silver Coin 60, Level 2 Enhancement Stone 15, Human Reputation 50, Random Equipment 1 (with a chance to obtain rare [Undead Set] equipment)
Failure Penalty: Level -1, lose 10% of current money, and must wait one day before receiving the [Undead Requiem] quest again.
Remaining Time: Complete within today
With a total of 360 Skeletons and undead above Level 17 to kill, Zhang Yi couldn't afford to slack off. Holding his Flame Staff, he joined the crowd entering the Undead City.
Upon entering the city, he saw many players already engaged in battle with the Skeleton monsters scattered throughout. Fireballs from Mages and arrows from Archers flew everywhere, occasionally accompanied by a scream or two, followed by a flash of white light.
The players' complaints could be heard as well.
A Level 14 Warrior Player, barely escaping with low health, rolling and crawling back: "Damn! These Skeletons are insanely strong! Level 17 Skeletons are as tough as Level 20 monsters outside! I'm out, not fighting anymore!"
The Warrior's teammate: "Aren't you going to complete the quest?"
Warrior Player: "Screw it, staying here any longer and I'll die. I'd rather take the quest penalty; at least I won't waste a revival chance or lose equipment!"
A solo player fighting Level 15 Skeleton Warriors: "Good thing I took a Level 1 difficulty quest. Even fighting Level 15 Skeletons is tough. Glad I didn't choose a higher level, phew..."
Seeing the players around him fighting Skeletons with such fervor, Zhang Yi began searching for his own targets.
Clearly, most players had chosen the Level 1 difficulty [Undead Requiem]. Passing through the area with Level 15-16 Skeletons, Zhang Yi found that there were very few players in the Level 17-18 area hunting higher-level Skeletons.
