CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: MY FATE IS GREAT, CAN’T HELP IT
After hearing Gu Yan’s words, Mrs. Gu didn’t show a hint of remorse or guilt. Instead, she completely flipped out, grabbed a cup from beside her, and hurled it at Gu Yan, "Gu Yan, you ungrateful beast!"
Gu Yan was caught off-guard, struck in the forehead by the cup. The cup shattered on the ground, and she was hit so hard that she staggered back a few steps, her head spinning.
Warm liquid flowed down her forehead. Gu Yan reached up to touch it, and it was a patch of crimson blood.
Across from the hospital bed, Mrs. Gu ignored her injury and seemed poised to throw something else at her. At this moment, Gu’s father woke up from the commotion, immediately sensing something was wrong in the room.
Seeing the blood on Gu Yan’s forehead, he shook off any trace of sleepiness. Despite his frail condition making it hard to speak forcefully, he shouted angrily at Mrs. Gu, "What are you doing!"
Mrs. Gu froze at his roar, genuinely taken aback.
Gu Yan looked toward the bed, "Dad."
Gu’s father looked at Gu Yan’s wound, his heart aching, "Gu Yan, go find a doctor to treat your wound. It’s hot now, don’t let it get infected."
"See a doctor for what! This beast should just be beaten to death!" Mrs. Gu yelled.
"Shut up!" Gu’s father shouted again.
Normally gentle, Gu’s father’s sudden anger was quite intimidating, leaving Mrs. Gu standing in place, suddenly not daring to yell anymore.
Gu’s father looked at Gu Yan, compassion in his voice, "Hurry and see a doctor. You young girls always care about your appearance, don’t let it scar."
Mrs. Gu instinctively wanted to say something but was silenced by a warning look from Gu’s father. She sat sulking in silence.
Gu Yan lowered her eyes slightly, whispering, "Dad, I’m okay. It’s just a small injury."
"Hmph." Mrs. Gu snorted coldly, looking at Gu Yan with nothing but disgust.
Gu Yan couldn’t understand why Mrs. Gu despised her so much.
"Just go when you’re told to." Gu’s father insisted firmly.
Gu Yan had no choice but to concede, "I’ll go see the attending surgeon later, just to check."
"Alright. Gu Yan, your dad is old now, and his health is just like this. Don’t worry about all this. Just live your life well."
"Tch, is someone like her even capable of worrying about you? Old Gu, you’re dreaming if you think that. It’s lucky she’s not praying for your death."
Mrs. Gu couldn’t stand her husband being harsh with her, yet speaking so kindly to someone she considered a picked-up beast.
Gu Yan raised her eyes to Mrs. Gu, "Aunt Gu, you’re not me, so you have no right to guess what’s on my mind."
"Hmph!" Mrs. Gu was boiling with anger, "Listen to what she’s saying, is there any respect for her elders?!"
"Respect is mutual. If you don’t see me as a human, why should I show you respect?"
She wasn’t stupid; if someone who always called her a beast deserved respect and courtesy from her, then she would need to be rebuilt from scratch.
"A beast is a beast, heartless but still finding excuses. I really don’t understand how someone like you is still alive."
"Sorry, it’s indeed unfortunate that I didn’t die under your abuse. I’m just hard to kill." Gu Yan retorted unceremoniously. After everything was laid bare, she didn’t have to hold back anything.
Mrs. Gu was so furious that she could barely breathe. She jumped up from her chair, knocking it over with her sudden movement, "You’ve got a sharp tongue, Gu Yan! I never noticed you had such skills all these years!"
"Enough! Both of you, say no more." Gu’s father commanded, his eyes bloodshot from illness, staring coldly at Mrs. Gu.
