CHAPTER 357: CHAPTER 153, LIGHT FOREST AMBUSH
When the Beastmen appeared before the knights, the majority of the knights were still sitting on the ground: "What? What happened?"
The Beastmen did not give them a chance to hesitate, cleavers and great axes swung down, and many knights were cut down before they could even react. The remaining knights struggled to stand, only to be knocked over by a powerful Great Horned Beast, which then chopped down mightily with an axe.
"Smack!" Viscera splattered, and a knight who had been painstakingly trained for nine years was eviscerated on the spot. Dissatisfied, the Great Horned Beast followed up with two more vicious chops, sending flesh and bone fragments flying through the air.
"Kill! Kill!" The Beastman Army surged from all directions, cutting the several-kilometer-long human army into many segments. In the darkness, battles erupted everywhere, with the roars of the Beastmen and the cries and screams of humans ringing out incessantly.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
"Where is my escort? I need my armor!"
"Soldiers! Form a line... ah!"
"Protect the Count! Protect the Count!"
The unprepared human army was scattered by the Beastmen. In the chaos, the Beastmen killed and bit any humans they saw. Without the inspiration of the Holy Grail Knights, the peasant soldiers crumbled at the sight of these terrifying creatures. They dropped their weapons and fled in horror, and without formation, they were quickly overwhelmed by the Beastmen’s frenzy.
The Giant Minotaurs slashed open fragile tents with their cleavers, grabbing humans and taking bites out of them. The taste of human flesh only slightly satisfied their appetite, as a deeper hunger and bloodthirst soon engulfed their senses, leaving only a craving.
The flowing blood, fallen heads, and human despair were their finest sustenance.
The human armies continued to try to organize a defense. As the officers struggled to form lines within the camp, an even more terrifying creature appeared.
"It’s the Doomsday Bulls! Retreat! Retreat!" Many who recognized the fearsome creature screamed out. The appearance of these terrifying beasts utterly shattered the officers’ lines. They barged into the formations and easily slaughtered the soldiers. Some soldiers were grabbed and slammed into the ground, smashed into pulp.
"Kill! Kill! Let the humans... stain the forest with blood!" From deep within the forest, the Beast King "Blood Horn" Maras moved out.
A crudely made Beastman war chariot was pulled forward by several Razor Beasts. On the chariot was a large Chaos Altar, where the filthy blood-red energy devoured all light, leaving only Chaos and emptiness.
Unlike most Chaos Cultists, the Beastman Beast King "Blood Horn" Maras of Arden Forest worshiped all four Gods of Chaos simultaneously.
This situation is rare because the Chaos Four Gods are antagonistic towards each other. Pleasing one deity might provoke another. Offering blood and skulls to Khorne might irritate Slaanesh, while plotting and scheming could displease Nurgle, even as Tzeentch smirked.
Only those with absolute confidence in their strength, believing they could gain the favor and alliance of all four Gods, would dare choose this path. These Chaos Four Gods’ followers risked being discarded and becoming Chaos Eggs, yet they steadfastly chose the most difficult path.
Additionally, another Chaos Faith exists, one that worships not the four Gods but Chaos itself. This sect is even more complex, believing that everything is in Chaos’s grasp, with human faith being merely different names for Chaos. The world is completely manipulated by Chaos.
In recent years, many cultists have been roaming the countryside of Brittania, claiming that the Lake Fairy is an incarnation of Tzeentch, one of the Chaos Four Gods. The knights strive to quell the confusion among the peasants, yet rumors still spread like wildfire.
The dreadful Chaos War Chariot, driven by Razor Beasts, charged into the camp like a monster. Made from rough timber and crooked, rusted nails, without proper design or craftsmanship, all who examined these weapons concluded the same—they were merely cumbersome carts. Yet, under the protection of Chaos Energy, led by the Razor Beasts, these cumbersome two-wheeled chariots crashed through the weak enemy lines like iron drills.
The rotary blades on the chariot spun wildly, directly sawing through dozens of fleeing peasant soldiers, who then lay on the ground howling.
"Kill! Let the humans... dye this land with blood!" The Beast King’s call echoed through the dark forest.
"Huff! Huff! Ha!" The Beastmen responded to the Beast King’s call as well.
The Inferior Horned Beasts roared, feasting on human flesh and blood. The Horned Beasts continued to pick off isolated soldiers, while the Great Horned Beasts and Giant Minotaurs rampaged through the Brittania army formations, obliterating any human resistance.
The most terrifying were the Doomsday Bulls, already draped with countless knights’ heads. Many blonde-haired, blue-eyed Brittania Knights were decapitated by them in hand-to-hand combat, their heads still dripping blood.
At this point, military discipline, strategy, and formations were entirely useless. In the dark forest, the knights’ heavy armor and shields became burdens instead. The vast majority of knights had no time to don armor, facing the Beastmen in the darkness relying solely on their innate physical and mental strength.
In such circumstances, how could the feeble humans stand against the Beastmen?
