CHAPTER 318: CHAPTER 319 HOW SHE DOES AS A SISTER-IN-LAW

"I never fancied her anyway, who knew Mom would take a liking to Liu Haihua," Wang Yuncai said.

Mrs. Wang’s face darkened. She could guess what Liu Haihua was up to in Wang Xueyong’s room. Initially, she thought the girl was a virgin and if she got pregnant, the marriage would immediately follow. Who would have expected she was a tattered shoe.

Mrs. Wang couldn’t sit still now. If it weren’t for Gao Guihua being there, she could have scolded her daughter to death for not disclosing such an important issue and even daring to bring someone into their home.

Because of Liu Haihua’s business, Mrs. Wang grew to appreciate Gao Guihua much more. Although the girl could neither carry a shoulder pole nor lift heavy things, being frail and slender, she could be nurtured to health. Most importantly, this girl was clean, a virgin, and therefore a suitable match for her son.

Thinking of her son letting Liu Haihua stay overnight in his room made Mrs. Wang quite sullen. She had also noticed Xiqiao last night but as a mother, she couldn’t simply knock and interrupt whatever her son was up to, risking making it public knowledge.

This definitely couldn’t be known by others or her son would be ruined. Moreover, Mrs. Wang was somewhat gleeful last night, thinking that if Liu Haihua did get pregnant, they would just arrange the wedding straight away and claim a premature birth when it came time to deliver.

Wang Yuncai mentioned on the side that Gao Guihua was Gao Yongfang’s cousin, with an uncle who was the captain of Guangming Production Team. Mrs. Wang paused. Gao Yongfang was known to be barren.

Close with Mrs. Feng, Mrs. Wang often heard her complain about Gao Yongfang being a hen that doesn’t lay eggs. Even though Gao Yongfang had given birth to a daughter, after so many years of marriage, just one daughter wasn’t enough, let alone not having a single son.

Mrs. Wang’s gaze towards Gao Guihua dimmed a little. She couldn’t shake the feeling that such a delicate girl didn’t look like she’d be good at bearing children.

Thinking of someone like Liu Haihua, tall and stout, she seemed physically well-prepared. Mrs. Wang had not minded introducing Liu Haihua as a woman from the countryside, but she didn’t expect she was a ruined shoe.

The more Mrs. Wang thought about it, the angrier she became, and she stormed out. Staying in the house any longer would suffocate her.

Once Mrs. Wang left, Gao Guihua anxiously said, "Yuncai, does your mother not like me?"

"She does like you, why wouldn’t she? It’s just that my mom is angry at my brother, that Liu Haihua from Red Star Production Team, you’ve heard of her, right?"

Guigua replied, "Doesn’t your mother know about Liu Haihua already being married with children?"

Wang Yuncai shook her head, full of regret, "How would I expect my mom to take a fancy to Liu Haihua? If I had known, I would have definitely told her."

Thinking that Wang Xueyong had gone to Red Star Production Team made Wang Yuncai even more frustrated. She then turned to Gao Guihua and asked, "Tell me, do you like my brother, do you want to marry him?"

Gao Guihua’s face reddened, "Your brother doesn’t like me."

Asking Gao Guihua whether she fancied Wang Xueyong was needless; she obviously did. Wang Xueyong was young and promising, not just in Gao Guihua’s eyes, but many young girls from the city liked Wang Xueyong too, Gao Guihua was no exception.

Her previously arranged fiancé was no match for Wang Xueyong, so when Wang Yuncai showed interest, Gao Guihua was more than happy.

"If you like my brother, that’s all that matters. I’ll introduce you to my eldest brother. You have to show some spirit," Wang Yuncai said.

Gao Guihua, a bit worried, asked, "Does your brother like that Liu Haihua?"

Pfft, Wang Yuncai spat, "My brother doesn’t like her at all. He’s fed up with her, but that woman has the shameless nerve to throw herself at him despite being pitiful. It’s disgusting."

Gao Guihua sighed in relief, thinking that someone like Liu Haihua couldn’t possibly be liked by the Wang family. Even though Gao Guihua was seldom away from home, she knew about Liu Haihua from the Red Star Production Team. Not to mention, Liu Haihua, in Gao Guihua’s eyes, was like a rowdy dark-skinned tomboy.

That day, Gao Guihua spent a long time at the Wangs’, and just as it was getting dark, Wang Xueyong finally returned.

"Brother, where have you been? You took so long to come back," Wang Yuncai said discontentedly.

"Is something the matter?" Wang Xueyong just got back from Red Star Production Team, his stomach churning with frustration.

"Is it not okay just to ask?" she retorted before introducing, "I’ve brought Gao Jiaxing’s cousin Gao Guihua over to play at our place."

"Gao Jiaxing’s cousin?" Wang Xueyong paused and looked at Gao Guihua.

"Yes, this is Gao Guihua, we’re close sisters," Liu Haihua introduced.

Gao Guihua glanced at Wang Xueyong, greeted him with "Mr. Xueyong," and then shyly lowered her head.

Wang Yuncai said, "We even ran into Brother Jiaxing."

"Brother Jiaxing?" Wang Xueyong looked at Wang Yuncai.

Guihua spoke up, "Brother Jiaxing went to accompany his wife back to her parent’s home."

Wang Xueyong looked at Wang Yuncai, who nodded unhappily. He then smiled at Gao Guihua, "Ms. Guihua, please have a seat. Since you’re a good friend of Yuncai, make yourself at home here and relax, okay?"

"Thank you, Mr. Xueyong," Guihua said with a smile.

"See, you’re being formal again. No need for thanks," Wang Xueyong said before turning to Wang Yuncai, "Pour some water for Ms. Guihua."

Wang Yuncai then realized she hadn’t offered Gao Guihua a glass of water and smilingly said, "We’re all family here. Ms. Guihua, help yourself, as my brother said, make yourself at home."

Guihua went to pour water, filling glasses for both Wang Xueyong and Wang Yuncai, and they sat down to chat together.

After seeing off Gao Guihua, Wang Yuncai, still discontent, asked Wang Xueyong, "Brother, what’s going on with you and that woman Liu Haihua? Mom got upset today when I mentioned that Liu Haihua had been married and had kids."

"There’s nothing going on," Wang Xueyong shook his head.

Wang Yuncai pursed her lips, meaning to mention the events of last night, but chose not to speak of it. Instead, she asked, "Brother, what do you think of Gao Guihua?"

"What do I think?" Wang Xueyong replied.

"What about her as my sister-in-law?" Wang Yuncai prompted.

Wang Xueyong paused, "Why did you think of making her your sister-in-law?"

"I think she’s quite nice. She’s gentler in nature and speaks softly. She gets along with Mom and me, and she seems to be a good wife and mother. She’s also very skilled with needlework."

Wang Xueyong chuckled, "Mom is skilled with needlework too, unlike you."

Wang Yuncai jutted her chin proudly, "That’s why we need a sister-in-law who is good at needlework. She’ll mend clothes for the family, make clothes for the little nephew. Won’t that be wonderful?"
