    Wedding My Ex’s Uncle

    Chapter 284 Family Truths

Alyssa let out a softugh. “Silly. A stand–in? There’s no stand–in. Did you overhear my call earlier or something?”

Landon said nothing, his expression nk.

Alyssa couldn’t tell if he was actually drunk or just pretending.

Either way, she figured she should clear things up.

“There’s no stand–in. He’s not even that old. Stop making things up. You’re not anyone’s recement. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about marrying you at first, butter…”

Landon’s bleary eyes sharpened with curiosity. “Later what? Come on, spill it!”

Alyssa smirked, realizing he’d been faking the whole time.

“Later, I realized you’re not so bad. So, I figured I’d stick with

    you.”

Without warning, Landon pulled her into a hug, nuzzling against her neck. Alyssa wrinkled her nose, halfughing, half–disgusted,

“Ugh, you stink, Landon. No way you’re getting in oued 15:41 smelling like that. Go shower. Guest room for tonight!”

Suddenly looking far too sober, Landon nodded, ran a hand through his hair, and trudged off toward the spare bathroom, looking slightly embarrassed.

But inside, he was quietly over the moon from Alyssa’s exnation.

The next morning, Landon acted like nothing had happened.

He went about his routine–mixing form for Dolores, changing diapers, handling it all himself.

Alyssa didn’t bring up the previous night either.

After breakfast, as Landon was about to head out, Alyssa called

    after him.

    “Hold on.”

Landon paused at the door, a faint question in his eyes. “What’s up?”

Alyssa stepped closer, tugging his tie to pull him down.

Hershes fluttered as she brushed a quick kiss against his cheek, her ears turning pink. “Alright, go to work.”

    Landon’s face lit up.

    A morning kiss!

    15 min left

As Alyssa turned to leave, he caught her slender wrist, pulling her gently back into his warm embrace.

He kissed her, tender yet fervent.

A passing maid quickened her steps, smiling at how sweet they were together.

Alyssa’s head spun from the kiss, her breath short. Landon finally let go of her lips.

“Go back inside. Don’t overdo it. If you’re tired, let the nanny watch Dolly.”

Alyssa, still a bit dazed, mumbled, “Yeah, got it. Go already.”

Even after the door closed, her heart was still racing.

From marriage to parenthood, Alyssa and Landon’s rtionship had moved at breakneck speed.

It had all happened iso /ifast.

So when Kaia asked if she liked Landon, Alyssa couldn’t give a straight answer.

They’d skipped the whole dating phase, jumping straight to raising a child together.

It was a strange feeling, one Alyssa couldn’t quite put into words.

But she didn’t mind being close to Landon, so she figured that must mean she liked him.

    Elena’s flightnded that afternoon.

She hadn’t visited since little Dolores was born.

Buttely, things between Elena and Alyssa had started to

    soften.

After fussing over adorable baby Dolores, Elena pulled Alyssa aside and sat down with her in a quiet corner.

“Alyssa, it’s been a long time since we’ve just sat and talked like this. Calm. No tension.”

At some point, Alyssa realized, she’d started bristling like a hedgehog whenever her mother showed up.

But now, as a mother herself, she could sometimes see where Elena had beening from.

Deep down, she didn’t want to watch Elena bounce from marriage to divorce over and over again.

To her, every failed marriage just meant her mom still hadn’t found real happiness.

She hoped, this time, Elena had.

“He’s alright,” Elena said with a soft smile. “Maybe this time, I won’t end up divorced.”

Alyssa watched her carefully. Her mother’s smile… it felt different. Softer. Real.

Elena’s voice was gentle. “Alyssa, now that you’re married, I want to say something. I know you’ve been holding things against me.

“First, because I remarried not long after your dad passed. And second… because I married George’s father. Right?”

Alyssa pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

Those had always been Alyssa’s two biggest grudges against

    Elena.

“George wasn’t right for you,” Elena went on gently.

“Back when I was with his father, I didn’t know about you two.

“But Alyssa… you need to understand something. When a man truly loves you, he doesn’t make you chase him. He doesn’t wait for you to confess first.”

Elena paused, letting her words sink in.

“Even if I hadn’t married his father, you and George were never going to happen. You thought he was kind. But you didn’t see his cold side.

“To him, love is just… extra. Something on the side. It was never going to be the center of his life.”

Alyssa heard the words, but only half understood them.

“He’s not avoiding marriage because he’s waiting for someone special,” Elena added softly. “He just doesn’t want it.”

“I know,” Alyssa murmured. “I don’t like him anymore.”

    “Good. That’s for the best.”

Elena had always been afraid Alyssa would lose herself chasing someone who’d never choose her.

“And the second thing.” Elena’s voice grew steady, but there

    was a tiredness beneath it.

“Your father… he cheated on me. Not just once. Long before he passed.”

Her tone was t now, almost resigned. “We were already talking about divorce. But then… he died.”

She looked at Alyssa, softer this time.

“You were just a kid. I couldn’t bring myself to tell you. I didn’t want to ruin the image you had of him—your perfect dad.”

She paused, then said quietly, “But I don’t want you carrying the wrong image of me anymore. Alright?”

    Alyssa sat there, stunned.

    She’d never even considered it.

    Her father–cheating? Over and over?

She felt like the ground had shifted beneath her.
