World Refresh: I Knew the Inside Info Ahead of Time
Chapter 17: Crushing Victory
The few survivors widened their pupils, staring in shock at the colossal beast that had descended from the sky.
"Why is he here! Why is he attacking us!" The underling who had earlier praised married women collapsed onto the ground, yellowish liquid slowly seeping out.
One of them quickly raised his hands and shouted loudly, "Misunderstanding! This is a misunderstanding! We're all good people! We came looking for shelter!"
Roar!
The colossal beast roared, ignoring the pleas for mercy. Its massive tail swung with immense force, sweeping across everything in its path. Those touched by it were either dead or severely injured.
Bang!
The giant tail crashed against the building's outer wall, causing the wall to violently shake as cracks spread rapidly.
As the tail pulled away, the shattered wall surface now bore a smear of blood and something that no longer resembled human form.
This was pure, absolute domination!
Without firearms, the massive size alone was enough to inspire utter despair.
Run? There was no chance.
Each step the colossal beast took covered ground equivalent to dozens of human steps. Its tail moved like a ship's anchor swinging from a giant vessel, faster than any human could run. Before anyone could escape far enough, the tail would strike, shattering bones and spraying blood.
Standing over thirty meters tall, the beast had a commanding view that allowed it to clearly track everyone's movements.
In the blink of an eye, Scar's men suffered heavy casualties, with only two survivors scattering in different directions to escape.
The blond young man ran desperately, his mind completely forgetting their original mission, consumed only by the thought of running faster.
Reaching a corner, he thought the building might block the prehistoric colossus's line of sight. He quickly scanned left and right, searching for any place to hide.
Run to the roadside shops?
No, these shops clearly contained zombies that were already scratching at the glass doors with their claws.
Several zombies on the street were also drawn by the enormous commotion, making a straight escape impossible.
The ground trembled slightly as the blond young man felt the prehistoric colossus approaching. He made an immediate decision, rushing toward the nearest car and desperately squeezing underneath it.
"Don't find me! Don't find me!" the blond young man repeated to himself mentally.
The next moment, he saw the beast's claw—as large as a compact car, with knotted muscles, rugged lines, and bluish-gray armored skin that would make anyone's heart pound with fear.
The claw moved, getting closer and closer to him.
The blond young man held his breath, his nerves stretched taut like steel cables, praying the colossal beast hadn't discovered him.
Suddenly, the giant claw stopped.
The blond young man's heart raced with wild joy—had his prayers actually worked? Had the prehistoric colossus really not found him?
However, a sudden voice turned his face ashen gray, filling his heart with utter despair.
"You think you're well hidden?" Li Xuan said.
The giant claw lifted, then descended.
A piercing screeching sound erupted, followed momentarily by a scream that was instantly silenced.
As the claw lifted again, the car had been completely flattened, blood oozing from the wreckage of the crushed vehicle.
The prehistoric colossus raised its giant claw, paused at a building's second floor, then rapidly shrank into human form. With one foot on the second-floor windowsill, it pushed off forcefully and dropped into the room.
A pigeon flying in the air landed, its beak holding a plastic bag containing Li Xuan's clothes.
"With such big wings, you actually can't fly," Yun Xiuzhi said.
"Go check the first floor," Li Xuan ordered.
Yun Xiuzhi flew out the window, entered through a first-floor window, called out twice to attract the zombies inside the shop, then returned to the second floor moments later.
"Downstairs is a small restaurant. There's a bone-cleaver chopper in the kitchen. I've already lured the zombies outside."
Li Xuan put on his clothes, went downstairs, found the chopper, and strode purposefully out of the restaurant.
The pigeon landed on Li Xuan's shoulder and asked, "There's still some food in the restaurant. Aren't we taking it?"
"Kill first, then come back for the food," Li Xuan replied.
Following the remembered escape route of A Yun, Li Xuan soon arrived at a clothing store.
"A Yun, come out. I've already found you," Li Xuan said calmly.
In the changing room, a large rooster hid behind the ceiling pipes. A Yun held his breath, terrified.
Li Xuan! That was Li Xuan's voice!
That prehistoric colossus was Li Xuan transformed!
Bai Lengning's earlier guess had been right!
'Damn it! Why does Li Xuan's transformation ability have to be so powerful! My transformation is just a chicken!'
Thump, thump, thump~
The footsteps grew louder, coming closer and closer.
A Yun's heartbeat accelerated with the approaching footsteps.
Swoosh~
The changing room door was pushed open.
A tall figure entered.
A Yun tightly closed his eyes, not daring to look at Li Xuan. After a while, the footsteps sounded again.
'I hid successfully! He didn't find me!'
A Yun forcibly suppressed his excited emotions, only opening his eyes after the footsteps had completely disappeared.
A horrifying scene reflected in his eyes!
Li Xuan was right below! He hadn't left at all! No! Li Xuan had pretended to leave, then come back!
Right now, Li Xuan was looking up, his gaze locked on A Yun, raising the chopper aimed directly at A Yun's comb.
"You led them here?" Li Xuan asked.
The intelligence had indicated Scar would bring a group to cause trouble, but it hadn't mentioned A Yun would be among them.
If A Yun was here, what about Bai Lengning?
Had she already died?
This thought flashed through Li Xuan's mind before instantly disappearing. He didn't particularly care about Bai Lengning's survival, it was just a passing thought.
A Yun shook his head repeatedly. "No, no, I didn't lead them! They wanted to kill you! I was forced! I didn't want to join them!"
A Yun regretted having demonstrated his transformation ability in front of Li Xuan. If Li Xuan didn't know about his transformation ability, perhaps he might have had a slim chance of survival.
"It seems you don't want to tell the truth. In that case, you can go meet them down below," Li Xuan said.
Steel flashed.
The chopper descended with heavy force, and the chicken head fell to the ground.
A Yun died on the spot. In his final moments, he remembered Bai Lengning hiding in the attic.
Perhaps he should have followed Li Xuan with Bai Lengning back then. With Li Xuan's transformation ability, he could have protected Bai Lengning.
What a pity—nothing could be redone.
Li Xuan looked down at the chicken head and murmured, "Humans transformed into animals don't revert to human form after death."
Yun Xiuzhi flew in from outside, calling out, "We should run! The zombies on the street are increasing. The smell of blood is attracting zombies from surrounding streets."
Ten minutes later, Li Xuan returned to the residential compound with Yun Xiuzhi. Sitting by the window, the man and bird enjoyed the sunset together.
"The difficulty for nearby survivors to find food has returned to what it was when the apocalypse first broke out," Yun Xiuzhi remarked.
"We're not short on food," Li Xuan responded.
If Scar and his group hadn't targeted him, he wouldn't have bothered going out. With food and drink at home, why go out? To play life-or-death tag with zombies?
"What are we eating tonight?" Yun Xiuzhi asked.
"Hot pot. Water and electricity might cut out at any time, so we should eat the beef and lamb slices first, then save the longer-shelf-life foods for later," Li Xuan said after some thought.
Yun Xiuzhi nodded repeatedly. She also loved hot pot. "Hot pot with cola—what heavenly enjoyment."
Li Xuan mercilessly interrupted her, "You're a pigeon now. You can't drink cola."
