World Refresh: I Knew the Inside Info Ahead of Time
Chapter 39: Schemes and Minion Zombies
"You're too large in size. If the mutated zombie sees you, it will definitely run. Let's go ahead first to observe, and when the Clawed Zombie appears, I'll come back to report," An Chun said.
After Li Xuan agreed, Su Letian paddled the boat forward with An Chun aboard. Once their figures disappeared, Yun Xiuzhi, who had been hiding on Li Xuan's head, emerged.
"That woman is very clever. I feel like An Chun tricked Su Letian. Since she could find us with just a few clues, she couldn't possibly not realize that taking off her clothes in front of Su Letian would cause his wife to go berserk. She did it intentionally, deliberately provoking Su Letian's wife!" Yun Xiuzhi said.
"It's not important. As long as we get what we want," Li Xuan replied.
"She figured out we're going to Kunlun Mountain. What if she leaks this to the authorities afterward? Didn't you say you don't want to contact the authorities right now?"
"Just getting close to Kunlun Mountain is enough. We don't need to go deep into Kunlun Mountain right now. Even if she leaks it, it won't affect us."
The divine fruits won't appear until the second version. Going now would just mean waiting. The situation on Kunlun Mountain is complex, so it's better to first hide near Kunlun Mountain and search for traces of mutated zombies to further strengthen ourselves.
"As long as you're confident," Yun Xiuzhi said before hiding again.
On the simple small boat, An Chun whispered to Su Letian, "I know you haven't moved on yet, but I won't harm you. You should understand that."
Su Letian's paddling movement paused for a moment. An Chun wouldn't harm him, but she didn't say she wouldn't harm his wife.
He knew his wife had provoked An Chun first, but it didn't deserve death.
That was his wife of ten years, not some stranger. After his wife's death, he had suspected An Chun, but had no evidence.
"Did you know about the mutated zombie here beforehand?" Su Letian quietly asked what had been weighing on his mind. This question pressed on his heart like a mountain, causing indescribable pain whenever he thought about it.
If An Chun had known about the mutated zombie's existence in advance, it would mean she deliberately provoked his wife, intending to use the mutated zombie to eliminate her.
If An Chun hadn't known beforehand, everything could be attributed to accident, or even said that his wife brought it upon herself.
An Chun reached out, cupped Su Letian's cheeks, and met his eyes with a firm gaze. "You need to believe me. Your wife bore me ill will, but I'm not a petty person. I never even considered retaliating against your wife."
"After I obtain the Supernatural Characteristic, I can hold a higher position in the base. Then I can find you an even more beautiful wife. If that doesn't work, you can always come to me, just like before."
After speaking, An Chun embraced Su Letian's head and held him tightly against her chest.
A struggle flashed in Su Letian's eyes. His suspicion of An Chun largely stemmed from the fact that they had crossed the line of friendship—he had betrayed his wife! He felt guilty toward her!
He wanted to make up for this debt.
But every time he tried to make amends, his wife would have a huge argument with him because of An Chun, nearly coming to blows, making him extremely frustrated. Before he could make up for what he owed his wife, she had already died.
"Will she hate me?" Su Letian murmured.
An Chun ruffled Su Letian's hair. "No, she won't hate you. She only hates me. Let me bear this hatred. You should forget about it."
Su Letian reached out and hugged An Chun tightly, so forcefully that An Chun's face contorted slightly, her eyebrows furrowing.
The small boat stopped beside an abandoned tall building. After tying up the boat, the two went upstairs.
Do pure friendships exist between men and women?
Su Letian believed they definitely did. His wife believed they didn't—that if a man and woman were too close, there must be ulterior motives.
Su Letian believed his relationship with An Chun was a pure friendship. Their mistake didn't come from love, just physical impulse.
Time passed bit by bit, ripples appearing on the water surface, growing larger and larger.
An Chun had been observing the water outside and suddenly clutched Su Letian who was holding her tightly. "It's coming! I'll go notify the Giant Beast!"
Su Letian irritably scratched his head. "You go. I have no strength right now and need to rest."
An Chun went downstairs, boarded the small boat, circled around the mutated zombie, and found the Prehistoric Colossus.
"The Clawed Mutated Zombie has appeared. After the two mutated zombies fight and are in a weakened state, we'll make our move to seize the Supernatural Characteristic."
Through their days of observation, she and Su Letian had learned that the Clawed Mutated Zombie had strong individual combat power, while the Breeding Mutated Zombie had powerful zombie subordinates. Their battles always ended inconclusively.
The Clawed Zombie would get seriously injured before reaching the Breeding Mutated Zombie and have to retreat, while the Breeding Mutated Zombie wouldn't send zombies to pursue the Clawed Mutated Zombie.
Though they never achieved victory over each other, neither mutated zombie would give up. The Breeding Zombie wouldn't relocate, adopting an attitude of fighting the Clawed Zombie to the death, and the Clawed Zombie wouldn't abandon the fight either.
"Unnecessary. We can just charge straight in. They're just two mutated zombies," Li Xuan said.
He couldn't find mutated zombies, but that didn't mean he couldn't defeat them.
Mutated zombies with only a single Supernatural Characteristic were like clay chickens and pottery dogs before Li Xuan.
"Are you really sure? Aren't you afraid of getting injured?" An Chun asked quietly.
"Lead the way," Li Xuan said.
Adapting to the Supernatural Characteristic had faced significant limitations in the first version—it didn't have the heaven-defying effect he imagined—but it had brought him a small pleasant surprise.
Small amounts of zombie virus couldn't infect him, at most making him feel unwell, dizzy, and headachey as if with a high fever.
His body was adapting to the zombie virus. If the adaptation characteristic became a bit stronger, it might allow him to perfectly control the zombie virus—not turning into a zombie but gaining the zombie trait of not dying unless headshot and the ability to command lower zombies.
...
The Clawed Mutated Zombie wasn't large, only about one and a half meters tall. Its mouth could stretch open like a snake's, and its fingernails were extremely long, each nail gleaming coldly, comparable to sharp swords. The claws on its feet were curved, somewhat similar to tiger claws.
Screech~
The Clawed Mutated Zombie swung its hands, its sharp claws easily tearing through an ordinary zombie.
A strange zombie appeared, incredibly tall at over three meters, with bulging muscles all over its body. Its arms were as thick as thighs, its form completely unlike a human's, more resembling some biological warfare weapon from a laboratory.
The giant zombie roared, its green eyes fixed intently on the Clawed Mutated Zombie as it quickly approached, palms closing together to crush the Clawed Mutated Zombie's head.
The Clawed Mutated Zombie wasn't dealing with the giant zombie for the first time. Its sharp claws pierced into the giant zombie's shoulder blades, the sharp claws cutting through bone, wreaking havoc, and brutally tearing off both of its thick arms.
Its mouth opened wide, the corners splitting to its ears, revealing three rows of sharp teeth—ferocious and terrifying—as it bit down toward the giant zombie's head.
Green blood splattered. The giant zombie wasn't dead yet, kneeing the Clawed Zombie in the chest. The sound of cracking bones echoed as it directly shattered the Clawed Mutated Zombie's ribs.
This move would have made most creatures lose combat effectiveness, but not zombies.
The Clawed Mutated Zombie increased its force, biting off the giant zombie's head.
More ordinary zombies surrounded them. The Clawed Mutated Zombie displayed its mighty power, madly swinging its sharp claws as dismembered limbs flew everywhere.
Su Letian, who was observing the battle between the two mutated zombies, licked his lips. The Clawed Mutated Zombie was strong—the most powerful individual zombie he had ever seen. Ordinary zombies were like toys in its hands.
He wondered if the Clawed Mutated Zombie's sharp claws could pierce the Prehistoric Colossus's scales?
Probably they could.
"Wait a bit longer. The Clawed Mutated Zombie still has strong combat power, and the Breeding Mutated Zombie hasn't reached its limit yet," Su Letian thought to himself.
