CHAPTER 483: CHAPTER 480: ENTRUSTED BY OTHERS
Chapter 480 Entrusted by Others
A man who looked emaciated and somewhat mysterious stood quietly in front of the warehouse door.
He was said to be eerie because, if one looked closely at his facial features, he seemed to be young, a young man.
But strangely, he had a gaunt figure and a woeful expression, giving him the appearance of a middle-aged man who had experienced the vicissitudes of life.
He also wore an old-fashioned gray plaid wool suit, carried a leather bag in his left hand, and had a formal hat on his head.
The man stood in front of the warehouse, gently pushed open the door, then entered.
Standing in the warehouse, he glanced around.
Chen Nuo had already slipped down from the warehouse’s roof beam in a flash, standing in the shadows and squinting at the guy.
Louise had already scampered down the stairs from the upper floor with rapid little strides.
Arriving in front of the man, Louise wore a sincere and joyful smile.
The man stood there without moving, merely looking down at the small girl. Then, with a stiff posture, he slowly bent over and finally knelt on one knee.
He took out the leather bag in his hand and, one by one, removed items from it.
Beef jerky, chocolate, cookies, cola.
What caused a change in Chen Nuo’s expression was... that the man actually took out a vial of potion.
Chen Nuo recognized at a glance that it was a synthetic version of the Self-Healing Serum!
Hiding in a dark corner, Chen Nuo pulled all his Spiritual Force Tentacles back.
But with his superior sensing power, Louise’s voice still clearly reached Chen Nuo’s ears.
"Mr. Mute, can you stay a little longer this time?"
"Mr. Mute, I might have to leave this place. I can’t live here anymore. A kind person told me this place will soon be repossessed by the government."
"If I go to a new place, will you still come to see me?"
"How can I let you know?"
"Mr. Mute, I learned a few sign language gestures from the leather store owner the other day. Now we can communicate! See? Is my gesture correct?"
"Hey, Mr. Mute, did I learn the sign language wrong? Why aren’t you responding?"
Standing in the corner, Chen Nuo saw the man in the wool suit just kneeling there, his body as stiff as a board. He remained silent, his expression unchanging, like an idiot.
Meanwhile, Louise seemed very happy, chattering non-stop with joyful gesticulations.
Chen Nuo squinted and watched for a while. It seemed that only after Louise grew tired of talking did the suited man suddenly extend his hand, grab Louise’s arm, and roll up her sleeve.
The child’s frail arm, now exposed, showed some scrapes and bruises. These were likely from everyday bumps and falls, as well as abrasions from falling into a drainpipe the day before.
The suited man remained silent but unscrewed the bottle of Self-Healing Serum, poured it out as if applying ointment, and began to smear it on the abrasions on Louise’s arm.
Clearly, this guy was a bit rough, and Louise was obviously in pain.
But the little girl endured it, wincing and drawing small, hissing breaths, yet still trying to muster a smile. "Mr. Mute, why do you always have to apply this potion to me? Mommy said only sick people need medicine, but I’m not sick."
The man in the suit said nothing, meticulously continuing his task of applying the potion.
Chen Nuo sighed, then suddenly stepped out from the shadows. In a flash, he slipped to Louise’s side.
"You’re indeed not ill, but this potion also works on those who are injured."
With that, Chen Nuo casually pulled Louise to his side. Two Spiritual Force Tentacles flicked the suited man’s hands away, and then Chen Nuo directly snatched the potion bottle.
Bringing it to his nose for a sniff, Chen Nuo smiled. "Self-Healing Serum... nice stuff! High-grade and good quality."
The man in the gray suit looked at Chen Nuo with eyes as if out of focus, scanned him, and suddenly flipped backward!
Twisting in mid-air, he dashed towards the warehouse door.
Chen Nuo huffed. The warehouse door automatically closed, and at the same time, a Mentality Barrier magically appeared in front of it.
The man in gray slammed into the barrier and immediately bounced back. Chen Nuo had already leaped forward, grabbing the man by the back.
"What are you doing! He’s my friend!" Louise suddenly panicked. The child screamed and ran towards them.
Chen Nuo shook his head. A gentle wave of Telekinesis blocked Louise. Chen Nuo, however, grabbed the man in the suit and leaped upward, landing on a beam on the second floor.
Louise bit her lip, looking so aggrieved she was almost about to cry.
Chen Nuo, however, sighed. Holding the man in the suit, he looked down at him, shook his head with a smile, and casually threw him into a corner.
Then, Chen Nuo yelled into the empty warehouse.
"Come out!"
The warehouse fell quiet for a moment.
Chen Nuo huffed. Several Mentality Tentacles shot out, sweeping rapidly through every corner of the warehouse. He shouted at the same time, "Still not willing to come out?"
Finally, from a corner of the warehouse, came a gentle sound.
"...MEOW~"
Chen Nuo’s gaze flickered. He swiftly flew out, leaping over a beam, and from atop it, grasped a shadow that resembled a lump of flesh.
The lump struggled as soon as Chen Nuo caught it, skillfully slipping from his fingers. It landed silently on the ground, thanks to its thick paw pads.
Then, in a flash, it dashed into Louise’s arms like a bolt of light.
Louise cried out. Her small body opened its arms to hug it tightly. Then, panicked, she glanced at Chen Nuo, turned away, and yelled, "Sir! Please don’t harm my friend!!"
Chen Nuo shook his head and landed softly in front of the girl, his expression complex. His eyes, however, were fixed on the thing in her arms.
"Honestly, I never expected to encounter you here. Ah, right, your name now is Black, isn’t it?" Chen Nuo’s tone grew serious. "The question is, how did you end up here, and why are you so concerned about this little girl?"
In Louise’s arms, the plump Gray Cat poked its head out and let out an exasperated meow toward Chen Nuo. "MEOW~"
Chen Nuo laughed.
"It’s none of my business? Ha! I’m making it my business! Since I’ve come across this, I definitely can’t just look the other way—and besides, who knows if this isn’t a trap you’ve set? Who are you after? Me? Or did you anticipate that I would show up here and meet this little girl?"
"MEOW~"
"Shut up!" Chen Nuo waved his hand, a bit impatiently. "You know I hate hearing you meow. Speak human!"
"...MEOW MEOW..."
"Don’t play that game with me. I know it takes a bit more effort for you to speak human language, but for you, it’s a trivial effort."
"Alright, quit being lazy, you lazy cat."
Finally, the Gray Cat gave in.
It wriggled out of Louise’s arms and jumped to the ground. "So... why does a human powerhouse, who shouldn’t exist in this world, appear here?"
The Gray Cat, holding its head high, stared at Chen Nuo and clearly enunciated this sentence.
Surprisingly, before Chen Nuo had a chance to respond, it was Louise who screamed first.
It was a scream filled with the wonder and delight unique to children.
"You really can talk!! Mr. Cat!! I knew you could talk! The last time I heard you speak, I thought it was just my imagination!! Oh my gosh, a talking cat!!!"
Chen Nuo sighed. "Alright, kiddo, this lazy cat knows a lot more than just how to speak human. In fact, not only can it talk, but it’s also quite the liar!"
The Gray Cat lifted a paw to lick it, then complained to Chen Nuo discontentedly, "You’ve hurt my pet."
"Him?" Chen Nuo indicated with his chin the man in the suit he’d thrown into the corner. "It’s fine. You have plenty of Self-Healing Serum."
The Gray Cat shook its head but started pacing around Chen Nuo, as if scrutinizing him closely.
"Strange... you have a familiar feel about you—you’re a Chosen One, and the Seed that chose you is a being I’d really rather not provoke."
"But what I don’t understand is... It has been in self-imposed exile for many years... how could you possibly be its Chosen One?"
"Human, you look no more than twenty at most. Yet I can tell you carry its aura—but it has been sealed for at least one or two thousand years."
Chen Nuo sneered. "Strange, is it? Shouldn’t you be the stranger one? A Seed that regularly cares for an ordinary human girl. When I met her, I checked thoroughly. She’s just a very ordinary human girl, with nothing special about her."
The Gray Cat’s tone became cautious. "You know I’m a Seed, yet you don’t seem at all afraid of me?"
"Of course, I don’t have to fear you. I’m not only aware that you’re a Seed, but I also know that Seeds aren’t allowed to rashly harm the Chosen Ones of other Seeds. Besides... you’re not just any Seed. You’re a Seed that has renounced its right to compete."
The Gray Cat’s eyes suddenly widened. "...You know quite a lot."
Chen Nuo suddenly smiled.
Yes, I do know quite a lot—and you yourself told me all this.
Having smiled, Chen Nuo continued slowly, "Well, since we can’t really fight each other, why don’t we just chat?"
"My intuition tells me that chatting with you is an easy way to be at a disadvantage," the Gray Cat eyed Chen Nuo warily.
Chen Nuo frowned. He looked at the Gray Cat, then suddenly at Louise. Feigning a sudden realization, he said, "I’ve got it! You... you don’t want to compete again, do you? Are you looking for and selecting a suitable Chosen One for yourself? Is Louise the one you’ve chosen? Is that why you’ve been looking after her?"
"Don’t slander a cat!" the Gray Cat protested, raising its paw. "I have no such intentions!!"
"Then why do you look after her?"
"How about you first tell me why I can’t see your life’s coordinates in this world, yet you stand before me? Why do you carry the mark of a Chosen One, when the Seed that marked you clearly sealed itself away long ago? That should make it impossible for you to have met it or become its Chosen One!"
The man and the cat stood glaring at each other.
Beside them, Louise tried to ask something several times, but she was too confused by what she was hearing and eventually forgot to speak.
"Alright. You tell me where you come from, and I’ll tell you why I’m here," the Gray Cat finally said directly.
Chen Nuo nodded. "Deal!"
With that, Chen Nuo waved his hand. Under a seal of spiritual power, Louise’s Consciousness Space instantly dimmed, and she slipped into sleep. The girl collapsed rigidly but was caught by two of Chen Nuo’s Spiritual Force Tentacles, which gently laid her on the ground.
"Why did you knock her out? What, is what you’re about to tell me not suitable for children?" the Gray Cat stared at Chen Nuo.
"Believe it or not, you’re at least right about one thing: I am someone who shouldn’t belong to this world. If I told this to anyone else, they’d think I was a madman. But you’re a Seed—you’ll definitely understand this sort of thing."
"So, what if I told you that I don’t belong to this time and space? That I come from the future? And that I encountered a powerful being hiding behind the scenes—a being that possesses the power to manipulate Time! And perhaps I was thrown into this very time and space by that entity."
Chen Nuo finished and pointed at the Gray Cat. "Now, it’s your turn!"
The Gray Cat fell silent for a moment, then slowly said, "Your claim is quite ludicrous—yet I sense you haven’t lied."
"Then what about you? Why did you befriend such a little girl and regularly care for her?"
The Gray Cat blinked. "What if I told you that I, too, was acting on someone’s behalf—would you believe me?"
"On someone’s behalf? Whose? Who entrusted this little girl to your care?"
"A powerful being whose location I cannot even find."
