CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: VICTOR GRANT IS AFTER THE JADE PENDANT TOO

May Morgan hid in Vincent Vance’s strong embrace, listening to his powerful heartbeat, feeling strange and uneasy inside.

She clearly heard Vincent’s words just now and felt them deeply. He hadn’t deceived her; she could sense it from the gentle way he looked at her.

However, their beginning was because of that Jade Pendant. Even if he’s treating her exceptionally well now, would he still be as unwavering if personal interests were at stake, just as he claimed?

Her fingers tightened on Vincent’s back, sensing something. He suddenly pulled out the Jade Pendant from his pocket.

"Here, take it back."

After speaking, Vincent gently placed the Jade Pendant into May’s palm. The cold touch of the pendant was a clear reminder that this time, the man across from her was serious.

May gently squeezed the Jade Pendant, sighed slightly in her heart, and said, "It’s not safe for me to keep the pendant. Why don’t you hold onto it?"

Upon hearing this, Vincent lowered his head and kissed her forehead, reassuring her, "You cleverly hid the Jade Pendant in the ashes; you’re not simple yourself."

"..."

May looked at Vincent wordlessly, not speaking. Seeing this, Vincent took her hand, enclosing both it and the Jade Pendant in his palm, "It’s safer for you to hold onto the Jade Pendant."

Since he had chosen May as his wife, everyone would assume the Jade Pendant was already with him, naturally focusing all their attention on him. Doing the opposite was the best strategy.

May gazed at him, suddenly feeling a wave of emotion in her heart.

"I don’t know exactly what secrets are hidden in this Jade Pendant, but it’s important to me. I’ve always been different physically. If I’m in darkness, something will come to take my life. But with the protection of the Jade Pendant, that thing doesn’t dare approach. If you had really locked me in the small dark room last time, I would’ve been strangled to death by that thing."

Vincent hadn’t known these things before. He looked down at her, a flash of pity in his eyes.

"Since the Jade Pendant is so important to you, we definitely can’t give it to Grandpa. Don’t worry, I’ve arranged everything. Once the wedding is over, I’ll send you away."

"Leave? Where to?" May looked at him puzzled, feeling a bit hesitant.

Vincent took the opportunity to shove some potato chips into her mouth, "Have something to eat."

The cartoon on TV finally ended as well. May, leaning against Vincent, couldn’t help but yawn. Seeing this, Vincent asked her in a low voice, "Sleepy?"

"No, no, I’m very awake." But in fact, May’s mind was already a jumble, yet she was afraid Vincent might take advantage of her, so she quickly waved her hand to indicate she could hold on a bit longer.

Vincent looked at her wordlessly, pinched her little nose, "If you’re sleepy, go to sleep. I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight."

"How can I let you do that?" May said a bit bashfully, but already started heading towards the bedroom.

Vincent shook his head helplessly, turned around, grabbed a throw pillow, and indeed lay down on the couch in the living room.

Night Phoenix Palace.

The heavy door of the private room was pushed open with a squeak, and Victor Grant stepped in front of the beaten and bruised Melanie Morgan, his face extremely indifferent.

Having endured torment all night, Melanie was now clinging to life by a thread. Her whole body hurt, and she would die if she wasn’t taken to a hospital soon.

She couldn’t die yet; if she did, everything would belong to that bitch May Morgan. She had been proud for so many years, how could she resign herself to such a defeat?

Seeing Victor appear, Melanie crawled frantically to his feet, grasping his trousers, and pleaded desperately, "Victor, take me to the hospital, I beg you."

Victor glanced at her coldly and leaned down, looking at Melanie, covered in filth, with disdain in his eyes.

Melanie looked up at his indifferent face, and the hand clutching his trouser leg finally released in despair.

This man has a cold heart; if he had even a little affection left for her, how could he have let those men do this to her?

"Want to go to the hospital? Fine, tell me one thing, and I’ll have someone take you there for treatment." After a brief pause, Victor stared into Melanie’s eyes, slowly speaking.

Grasping at what seemed her last chance to live, Melanie’s once hopeless eyes lit up: "Tell me, what do you want to know?"

"What exactly did you mean when you mentioned that Jade Pendant last night?"

Melanie hesitated slightly before finally answering softly, "The Jade Pendant is something Arthur Vance wants. It was because of this pendant that I was able to get engaged to Vincent smoothly."

"I know that. What I want to know now is why this Jade Pendant is so valuable that it forced Vincent to use marriage as leverage?" Victor coldly glanced at Melanie, questioning her harshly.

"I-I’m not very clear..." A cunning light flashed in Melanie’s eyes as she lowered her head in a feigned response to Victor.

"Not clear?" Victor suddenly pinched Melanie’s face hard, applying enough force to deform it.

"I hate women who play games with me the most. Didn’t have enough fun last night, is that it?"

"No, no, I’ll talk, I’ll talk." Victor was like the devil incarnate, able to crush her with a single finger; Melanie dared not provoke him.

Melanie looked up at him, seeing a shrewd light in his eyes, an evil plan came to her mind, "The Jade Pendant is with my sister; I know she has never dared to show it in public because there’s an earth-shattering secret inside."

"A secret? What secret?" Victor indeed was taken aback by Melanie’s words.

"I don’t really know the specifics, but think about it, for something that made the elder not hesitate to use his grandson’s marriage as bait, it’s definitely not ordinary. Moreover, I’ve heard my father say that the pendant is a divine object containing a spectacular secret."

Hearing Melanie’s words, Victor couldn’t help but gasp. Money, he had plenty, but such a magical pendant piqued his interest.

"I’m warning you, don’t lie to me, or I’ll kill you!"

"I wouldn’t dare, everything I said is true." Melanie quickly lowered her head, feigning a pitiful look, and assured Victor.

"Alright, for now, I’ll save you this time, but you have to promise me one thing; I’m very interested in that Jade Pendant, find a way to get it for me."

Get the Jade Pendant for Victor?

Melanie hesitated, a hint of reluctance in her eyes, "My sister is mixed up with Vincent right now, I don’t have that kind of influence."

"So you want to die then?" Victor tossed aside Melanie’s face and threw her brutally to the ground, "Someone come in, this woman hasn’t had enough yet."

"No, no, I agree, I’ll do it."

Melanie was terrified; to save her life, she had no choice but to agree.

Victor was too sharp; she had merely meant to set a trap for May but ended up falling into it herself, unlucky!

"Fine, you have three days to get me the Jade Pendant. If not, you know what to do." Victor lightly patted Melanie’s face, sneering as he threatened her.

"I understand..."

May’s first action upon waking was to pull back the blanket and inspect herself. Seeing her clothes intact and no signs of being taken advantage of during the night, she felt slightly relieved, then sat up from the bed.
