CHAPTER 53: CHAPTER 53: I’M NOT SELLING ANYMORE

The subordinate acknowledged the order and withdrew. Half an hour later, Mason Morgan was brought in. When he saw May Morgan was also present, his face showed a hint of shock.

"Mason Morgan, I ask you, your daughter Melanie said that the blood of May’s child can cure my son’s illness. Is this true?" Arthur Vance asked Mason directly.

Mason looked up at May and then at Melanie, struggling to answer, "I, I don’t understand what you’re saying, Old Master Vance."

Seeing this, Arthur Vance suddenly signaled to someone nearby. The bodyguard reacted by seizing Melanie and pointing a gun at her head.

"Mason Morgan, you know I despise being deceived. If everything your eldest daughter said is a lie, I will not spare her!"

The bodyguard, upon hearing this, immediately cocked the gun and pressed it against Melanie’s temple, causing her to turn pale with fear.

"Dad, Dad, save me!" Melanie pleaded bitterly with her father in terror.

Mason hesitated between looking at Melanie with a gun to her head and at May sitting nearby, gritting his teeth as he nodded to Arthur Vance, "Yes, it was me who said this. My younger daughter was chosen by the Jade Pendant, so she has this ability!"

"You think I’ll just believe it because you say it?"

Arthur Vance was always a cautious person. There was no way he would take Mason’s words at face value, especially given the gravity of the matter at hand.

Mason paused, then gritted his teeth and said, "It is said that the Jade Pendant was brought by May’s mother from her maiden home, and within it lies the Dragon Insect. The blood of the chosen one by the Dragon Insect can cure all illnesses, but only before the age of eighteen. After that, only her offspring can inherit the ability. May’s mother had the ability previously, but after marrying me, it was passed on to May. Now, to save the second young master, May needs to have another child."

When Mason finished speaking, Arthur Vance stared at him with eyes that seemed to pierce all, questioning, "But I heard back then that what is truly useful is what’s inside this Jade Pendant. Are you lying to me because you’re afraid I’ll kill your eldest daughter?"

Upon hearing this, a fine sweat immediately broke out on Mason’s forehead. He was timid by nature and didn’t have the inner strength that May possessed in front of someone like Arthur Vance.

"Old Master... it’s like this. The Jade Pendant, the Dragon Insect inside, needs May’s fresh blood for a ritual to come alive. Once the Dragon Insect is alive, its aura will automatically attach to May. Then, when May has another child, that ability can be passed on."

This time the explanation seemed more credible. Arthur Vance observed that Mason didn’t appear to be hiding anything further, which satisfied him as he said, "I will trust you this once. I warn you, if you dare lie to me, I will kill you along with her!"

Mason, terrified, nodded repeatedly, "I don’t dare, I don’t dare, how would I dare lie to you?"

"Do you know about the blood ritual?"

"I know a little..."

"Good, you’ll handle the blood ritual for your daughter later."

Arthur Vance waved a hand dismissively, assigning this cruel task to Mason.

May looked at Mason in extreme disappointment, at a loss for words, "Mason Morgan, you are such a good father."

Mason, full of anguish, avoided her sharp, blade-like gaze and said softly, "Don’t blame me, having you give birth to a child is better than letting your sister die."

"Oh, what a noble reason? All of this is her own doing. If she hadn’t harmed me, why would she have a gun pointed at her head? Mason Morgan, you’re not my father!"

"Say what you will, but these years, I haven’t treated you unfairly. Your sister’s life is on the line, do you really want to watch her die?"

Facing a father who seemed to make more sense yet remained so self-righteous, May was left speechless. His reasoning was twisted; just because she was being forced to bear a child, she was meant to accept it?

Arthur Vance turned to Victor Grant beside him, reaching out to him for the Jade Pendant: "Victor Grant, give me the Jade Pendant!"

Hearing this, Victor retrieved the Dragon-shaped Jade Pendant from his pocket, playing with it in his palm without rushing to hand it over to Arthur Vance.

"Old Master Vance, how peculiar this sounds. Can this Jade Pendant really bring someone back to life?" Victor commented leisurely as he alternated glances between the pendant and Arthur Vance.

Arthur’s face turned cold, and he didn’t withdraw his outstretched hand, "This is none of your concern; hand the pendant to me, and I will have your promised ten million transferred to your account shortly."

"Ha, ten million, you think I’m a beggar?"

Victor chuckled defiantly, suddenly shoving the pendant back into his pocket, losing any intention of making a deal with Arthur, "Sorry, someone just offered fifty million for my pendant. I doubt Old Master Vance would meet such a high price, so I sold it to them."

Upon hearing this, Arthur’s face darkened. Victor’s sudden backtracking enraged him, causing his voice to shift: "Victor Grant, don’t toy with me. You initially asked for ten million, I didn’t even haggle. What, now you want to renege?"

"Business is business, obviously the highest bidder wins. Why give up fifty million and settle for ten? That would be foolish, wouldn’t it?"

Victor sneered, turning to leave with the pendant. Seeing this, Arthur, in anger, waved his hand, and the four bodyguards in the room immediately pointed their guns at Victor’s head.

Victor heard the commotion behind him, and stood at the doorway, looking back at the bodyguards: "Is Old Master Vance planning to force my hand now?"

"Fifty million it is; I’ll have it transferred to you later. Hand over the pendant," Arthur Vance prioritized obtaining the pendant; money was of lesser concern to him. Though Victor hiked up the price, Arthur decided to hold back for now.

Victor looked at Arthur meaningfully and pulled out his phone, making a call: "Hello, your old man also bid fifty million, can you do better? If not, I’ll sell it to him since I’ve got four guns pointed at me."

Upon hearing Victor’s words, May immediately understood that the person willing to spend fifty million on the pendant was actually Vincent.

Forgive him, did he really not give up on her?

At that moment, May’s heart, initially filled with despair, warmed again because of Vincent.
