CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: BEHAVE YOURSELF

Because they timed it just right, as soon as the two of them arrived at the airport, they could check in, and then smoothly boarded the plane to Crestwood.

After more than two hours, the plane landed at the Crestwood airport. After getting off the plane, they got on a long-distance bus and sat for another two hours before arriving at May Morgan’s hometown.

As dusk approached, they finally made their way to the doorstep. May’s grandmother had been living in that old house in the countryside for years, nestled at the foot of a mountain. Due to its remote location, there were hardly any neighbors around.

In fact, Mason Morgan had bought a house in the city for his mother, but because their relationship hadn’t been good over the years, May’s grandmother stubbornly refused to move. Eventually, Mason had no choice but to have someone renovate the old house a bit, so now it didn’t look rundown but rather had the air of a grand estate.

However, the elderly woman lived all alone in such a large residence.

Before coming, May had called her grandmother, so her surprise return didn’t shock her grandmother, who had even prepared a dinner table early to welcome her.

However, her grandmother was a bit puzzled by the man May suddenly brought home.

"May, who is this?" Granny asked, staring curiously at Vincent Vance’s face.

Not wanting to hide anything, May took Vincent’s hand and honestly explained to her grandmother, "Grandma, this is Vincent Vance, my husband."

"Husband?" The moment Granny heard the word ’husband,’ her face didn’t show much excitement but rather a worried expression.

Seeing that Granny didn’t seem to like him, Vincent quickly tried to win her over, "Grandma, I truly love May, that’s why I married her. Please rest assured, I will treat May well in the future."

Granny gave an awkward nod, and when she raised her head to look at Vincent again, the strangeness in her eyes made Vincent even more curious.

From her gaze, Vincent could guess that it was not because she disliked him, but rather, hearing about May’s marriage seemed to bring up some unspeakable concern.

"Let’s not talk about this now, let’s eat." Granny sighed slightly and turned to lead May and Vincent to the inner room for dinner.

During dinner, out of courtesy, Granny asked Vincent a few ordinary questions, "Where is your family from? What do your parents do?"

Vincent, not wanting to hide anything, answered honestly, "Grandma, my family is in Silverwood City. My parents passed away early on, and I have a grandfather."

"Oh, what does your grandfather think about your marriage?" The older generation values these things greatly, and Granny was no exception in inquiring about Vincent’s situation on his end.

Vincent exchanged a glance with May and, after receiving her nod of approval, cautiously said to Granny, "My grandfather’s name is Arthur Vance. I wonder if you still remember him?"

Upon hearing the name Arthur Vance, Granny was at first stunned, then looked at Vincent with some amazement, questioning him, "What did you just say? Your grandfather is Arthur Vance?"

Vincent nodded firmly, answered her question, and studied her facial expression intently, "Yes, my grandfather told me that when he was young, he once got injured and benefited from your kindness. He has always remembered this, which is why I married May."

No sooner had Vincent finished speaking than Granny’s face turned swiftly from shock to anger. She abruptly put down her chopsticks and got up to leave.

Seeing Granny leaving the kitchen without a word, Vincent stood up quickly to follow her and find out what happened. At this moment, May grabbed him and softly advised him, "Let it be; I’ll ask her later."

The reason they came was to uncover the secret of that Jade Pendant, so Vincent was testing the waters by bringing up the name Arthur Vance to see Granny’s reaction. He didn’t expect that hearing the name would provoke such a strong response, leaving May feeling that the situation was far more complicated than they had anticipated.

What kind of conflict was there between Arthur Vance and Grandma in the past?

Why did Grandma get so angry upon hearing Arthur Vance’s name?

After dinner, Vincent rolled up his sleeves to help May with the dishes. It was his first time doing such a thing; he was usually the kind of pampered young man who never got his hands dirty, so he appeared rather clumsy.

May turned her head and saw him, earnest and serious, washing the dishes, and couldn’t help but laugh: "How’s it going? Easy to wash the dishes?"

Vincent frowned and honestly responded, "Not easy at all; it’s harder than closing a business deal."

It really was difficult; the dish seemed to slip in his hands like it didn’t want to cooperate at all, and those oil stains were just impossible to scrub away.

May squeezed some detergent on the dish and reached over, hand-in-hand, teaching him how to wash dishes, their two slippery hands intertwined like two playful fish, creating a sense of pleasure.

Vincent, holding May’s slippery little hands, suddenly felt a bit moved and leaned in to peck her cheek, startling May into pushing his face away.

"Behave yourself; this is Grandma’s house."

Vincent wasn’t that unaware of boundaries; being at May’s family home, he certainly had to show some restraint. It was just a moment of being charmed by the little girl that made him unable to resist giving her a quick kiss.

"I know; I’m not really a rogue!" Vincent rolled his eyes at May and quickly stood straight again.

May glanced back at Vincent and noticed that soap bubbles had stuck to his face, making him look particularly amusing; she couldn’t help but chuckle quietly.

Noticing her restrained laughter, Vincent’s face darkened. He asked her accusingly, "What are you laughing at?"

"No, nothing." May quickly retrieved a towel to wipe away the bubbles on Vincent’s face, needing to stand on her tiptoes to reach due to his height.

"All done!" As she retracted the towel, May suddenly felt herself being lifted off the ground. Just as she was about to scream, Vincent placed her on a chair and leaned over to seal her lips with his.

"Shh, don’t shout; if you do, Grandma will hear!" Even as he mischievously took advantage, Vincent used Grandma to threaten May.

Granny was just in the living room watching TV. Although the volume was turned up high, with just a wall separating the kitchen and the living room, any unusual noises would surely reach Granny’s ears.

May punched Vincent in the chest: "Do you believe I’ll have Grandma kick you out in the middle of the night?"

Vincent merely stole a kiss from her; really doing something here would require choosing the right place, wouldn’t it? If he were to make a move on May right there in the kitchen, he’d be labeled as a hooligan by her grandmother forever after.

Who knows, it might even ruin their marriage.
