CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: I BELIEVE IN VINCENT VANCE

"Alright, alright, is it not enough if I don’t touch you?" Vincent saw that May seemed genuinely angry, so he hurriedly lifted her from the chair, speaking soothingly.

May did not believe his nonsense at all, pushed him away, and turned to accompany her grandmother to watch TV: "Tonight I’ll sleep with grandma."

"That won’t do. Can you bear leaving me all alone?" Vincent quickly caught hold of May’s arm, feigning a pitiful look: "At worst, I won’t touch you tonight, is that fine?"

"Ugh, trust your nonsense." May rolled her eyes, too annoyed to even listen to his jabber. Yet, as she turned to leave, she couldn’t help but glance back, explaining to him: "I’ll ask grandma about the Jade Pendant tonight."

Fine, with more important things at hand, Vincent had nothing more to say and simply nodded.

In the evening, May indeed slept in the same room with her grandma.

As the night deepened in silence, before May could speak, grandma suddenly asked May: "Did you really marry Vincent?"

May didn’t want to deceive grandma, so she nodded and replied: "Yes, we have the certificates, and the wedding has been held."

Thinking about it, May felt a bit guilty as she said to grandma: "Grandma, I didn’t mean to keep this from you, I truly had my reasons."

Grandma turned to look at May; under the bright moonlight, her previously cloudy eyes suddenly appeared unusually bright: "May, you and Vincent are not suited for each other. You should get a divorce."

May feared her grandma would say something like this. Actually, since dinner, when Vincent had mentioned Arthur Vance, grandma’s indifference had already hinted at her dissatisfaction with the marriage.

"Grandma, Vincent truly loves me; I feel we are quite suited for each other." May argued with a hint of grievance.

Grandma sighed lightly, yet her tone became more serious than before: "When I say you two aren’t suited, it’s because you’re not suited for the Vance Family."

"Wh-why?"

"Arthur Vance is not a good man. Having a descendent of the Vance Family marry you, he certainly has an ulterior motive; marrying into that family is a dead end."

At this point, grandma suddenly reached out to hold May’s hand, earnestly advising her: "May, listen to me. No matter how seemingly good the Vance Family is, it is not the right place for you; no matter how outstanding Vincent is, he is ultimately not the right one for you. Leave him, don’t waste your entire life."

"I won’t, grandma, you don’t understand. Vincent broke with his grandfather to save me; you truly have no idea how desperate I was then. My father didn’t care about me, my sister framed me, I thought I was going to die, but it was Vincent who saved me, he was willing to abandon everything to get me out, I can’t leave him."

Grandma’s persistent persuasion not only didn’t sway May but strengthened her resolve to stay with Vincent.

Nobody in this world is kind to her, except Vincent. If she had to abandon even him, what meaning would life hold?

Speaking of this, May suddenly cried with grievance, the long-suppressed pain in her heart finally venting in front of grandma.

"Grandma, after my mother died, you’ve been my only family. You know how my father treats me; last time when my sister framed me, I almost got killed by Vincent’s grandfather, yet my father stood by, and cruelly abandoned me to save my sister; that time, I was truly desperate, I felt he was unworthy as my father."

Listening to her granddaughter’s lament about her son, grandma sighed heavily, her grip on May’s hand tightened more.

"May, don’t blame your father for being cold, he too has his struggles."

"What struggles? He’s a damned man who abandoned his wife and daughter, what struggles does he have?" Over the years, May clearly saw how Mason Morgan treated her and her mother.

Grandma looked at May’s gritting, hateful expression, opened her mouth wanting to speak, but finally just sighed deeply without saying anything.

"It’s late, let’s sleep." Grandma suddenly released May’s hand, turned to pull the blanket and lay down, saying no more.

What May needed to ask hadn’t been addressed, so she eagerly took the chance to pursue, "Grandma, my father said there is a Dragon Insect inside the jade, and its power can cure all ailments. Do you know if that’s true?"

Grandma heard this, suddenly sat up from the bed, turned to look at May, and asked, "What did you just say? Who told you about the Dragon Insect?"

"It was my father. Last time, when I was kidnapped by Vincent’s grandfather, my father disclosed the secret of the Dragon Insect to save my sister’s life, and said since I’ve already turned eighteen, my blood cannot have that effect anymore; only if I have a child, the child’s blood will work."

"Rubbish!"

Before May could finish, grandma angrily scolded, and May knew she was scolding her father but didn’t understand why grandma was so angry.

Seeing grandma’s hands trembling with anger, May quickly reached out her hand, holding grandma’s hand in her palm: "Grandma, don’t be angry, my dad has treated me like this not just for a day or two."

"May, you don’t understand, you truly don’t!" Grandma shook her head in disappointment, suddenly looked down at her neck, and shocked to see the jade pendant absent from her body, hurriedly asked: "Where is the Jade Pendant?"

May did not hide and honestly replied: "I handed the Jade Pendant to Vincent for safekeeping. Dad told Arthur Vance the Dragon Insect in the pendant needs to enter my body, only then will my child be of use, so, to be cautious, I entrusted Vincent with the pendant."

Grandma stared at May for a long time, seeing her deep affection for Vincent, sighed again: "Looks like you genuinely care for this man, but I always fear he might..."

"No, grandma, I trust him."

If even Vincent became untrustworthy, who else could she trust?

She had staked her entire life on this man who swore to treat her well lifetime, so she must protect him wholeheartedly.

"Since you’ve made your decision, I won’t insist, but I have one condition; leave the Jade Pendant here with me, I’ll safeguard it."

Grandma’s sudden request to reclaim the pendant bewildered May because grandma used to warn her never to let the pendant leave her body, lest she face fatal danger; yet now, why did she want it back?

"Grandma, the Jade Pendant is already targeted by Vincent’s grandfather, keeping it here isn’t safe. It’s better to leave it with Vincent, he has the capability to protect it."
