Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife
Chapter 68: Who Killed My Grandma
CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 68: WHO KILLED MY GRANDMA
May Morgan suddenly sat up in bed and grabbed Vincent Vance’s hand, demanding sharply, "Vincent, be honest with me, did something happen to my grandmother?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Your grandmother is fine." Vincent reached out and stroked May’s cheek, his eyes full of affection for her, "Don’t overthink it, okay? Let’s go home tomorrow first."
"No, I want to go back and see my grandmother!" May suddenly slapped Vincent’s hand away and cried, "Don’t hide it from me, or I’ll never forgive you. Tell me, did something happen to her? Did it?"
Vincent opened his mouth, just about to speak when May suddenly remembered something, hurriedly grabbing the phone beside her and quickly dialing her grandmother’s home number.
However, when she called, the phone at her grandmother’s home still couldn’t be reached.
"I can’t get through to my grandmother’s phone, so how do you know she’s fine? Tell me, tell me!"
Tears welled up in May’s eyes, as she held her phone aloft, loudly questioning Vincent.
Seeing Vincent silent, the panic in her heart became even more evident. She fiercely shook off Vincent’s hand and ran out barefoot.
"I need to see my grandmother, I need to make sure she’s okay!"
Her grandmother was the only relative who cared for her; she couldn’t imagine what she’d do if something happened to her.
Vincent hurriedly grabbed her and pulled her back to the bed firmly, making her sit, "May, listen to me. It’s still dark outside; we can’t go back right now."
"I don’t care. I’ll walk if I have to!" May struggled wildly in Vincent’s arms.
Vincent, utterly helpless, finally sighed, and with a firm attitude, made her sit on the bed while he looked for shoes for her.
Although he was a grown man, he stooped down, carefully and seriously put on her socks, and then her shoes.
"May, even if something happens to your grandmother, you’ll still have me afterward. I’ll take care of you for a lifetime, do you understand?"
After putting on her shoes, Vincent looked up seriously at May.
May wiped her tears and said to Vincent with a choked voice, "I know, but my grandmother raised me; she’s the best person to me in the world."
"I understand, wait a moment!"
Vincent reached out to touch May’s cheek, then stood up, took out his phone, and made a call.
"Director Lawson, could you send someone to drive us over? Yes, we’ll go now."
After hanging up, Vincent helped May up from the bed. But as he opened the door, he hesitated at the threshold.
"May, your grandmother..." he looked back at her, hesitating to speak, "your grandmother is in the hospital now."
"Wh... what?"
May felt the world darken before her eyes, and if Vincent hadn’t caught her in time, she would have fainted to the ground.
It had come true, the nightmare she had been having since the day, had finally come true!
"What illness does grandmother have? How did she suddenly end up in the hospital?" May held Vincent’s hand tightly, anxiously questioning him.
Vincent sighed slightly, not intending to tell her the whole truth now, and simply consoled her softly, "Don’t ask yet, let’s talk when we reach the hospital."
Soon, the car Vincent arranged arrived downstairs, and when May got down and saw that it was a police car, she felt even more puzzled. How did Vincent have the ability to mobilize a police car in Crestwood? Or was her grandmother’s hospitalization likely not due to an illness, but...?
May almost didn’t dare to think any deeper. The more she thought about it, the more her heart felt like it had fallen into an abyss, leaving her terrified. All along the way, she leaned worriedly on Vincent’s shoulder, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Feeling May’s trembling, Vincent quickly took off his jacket and draped it over her, softly comforting her, "It’s okay, don’t think wildly."
"Vincent, tell me honestly, how did you know my grandmother was hospitalized?" May suddenly grabbed Vincent’s hand and asked unexpectedly.
Vincent looked down at her hand gripping his fingers, sighed slightly, and said, "I knew you’d worry about your grandmother’s safety, so I called an acquaintance here and asked them to check on your hometown."
The "acquaintance" Vincent referred to was likely Director Lawson mentioned on the phone earlier. May looked gratefully at Vincent, knowing that without his help, the situation with her grandmother might not have been as simple as being in the hospital.
Leaning once again against Vincent’s embrace, May sincerely said, "Thank you."
"Silly girl, why say thank you to me?" Vincent reached out to stroke her head, though his gaze remained deeply concerned.
The police car took nearly two hours to reach the hospital where her grandmother was. By the time they arrived, the sky had almost lightened.
Ignoring her fatigue, May got out of the car and rushed straight to her grandmother’s operating room. When they arrived, May’s grandmother was still in surgery and hadn’t come out yet. The operation had been going on for nearly four hours, which was unprecedented at this hospital.
May waited outside the operating room for a long time until the tightly closed door finally opened from the inside. She immediately dropped Vincent’s hand and ran over quickly.
But when she got to her grandmother, she was utterly shocked.
Her grandmother was being wheeled out, covered with a white sheet by the doctors!
"I’m sorry, we did our best. The patient was too severely injured, and with her age and excessive blood loss, there was nothing we could do..."
The doctor looked apologetically at May.
May felt the world darken in front of her eyes, and her mind started buzzing. After that, she couldn’t remember any of what the doctor said.
Vincent quickly stepped around to embrace the already fainted May, then spoke to the doctor, "Send the deceased to the mortuary first. I’ll bring someone to handle it later."
Finished speaking, Vincent carried May directly out of the hospital. Just as he was about to place her in the police car, May suddenly regained consciousness. She seemed like she was falling apart and struggled fiercely from Vincent’s embrace, "Let go of me, let go, I want to see my grandmother!"
Why, why did grandmother die?
Who killed her? Who did this?
She seemed to have gone insane, not listening to a word Vincent said regardless of how he coaxed and pulled, until in the end, Vincent had no choice but to compromise with her, "I’ll take you to see your grandmother, but you need to calm down first. Calm down, and I’ll take you."
As he spoke, he helped May down from the car, patting her gently on the back and softly persuading her, "I know you’re sad, but you must understand that your grandmother is gone. If she sees you like this from above, it will make her very unhappy."
