CH.655 Duel Runner Tournament, part 13

We once again pulled into the pits to prepare for the final duel.

Myla was seemingly beyond herself after winning the second one, and admittedly the way she did it was really cool.

After a bit of rest, the two of us picked and then banned our Field Spells, since I was part of the duel we did in in the pits instead of on the starting line.

My fields stayed the same, but for Myla, I banned Aroma Garden instead of Spiritual Forest. So our full Field Spell rotation was Spiritual Forest; Luminous Spark; Forest; The Resolute Meklord Army; Fortissimo the Mobile Fortress and Machine Conversion Factory.

We then left the pits, driving not too quickly to the end of the pit lane where it looped back on itself and the two of us stopped at the starting line.

As we stopped there, we saw the first two Field Spells of the duel. They were Fortissimo the Mobile Fortress followed by Spiritual Forest.

So a perfect start for me.

Fantasia then told us to draw our opening hands and I had a decent one. … for going second if Myla summons a Synchro monster. But for going first, not so much. Sure Fortissimo the Mobile Fortress would help a bit, but I admittedly would rather go second. Sure I’ll likely have to deal with Spiritual Forest, but I can still get the battle damage in.

I hadn’t fully made up my mind by the time the duel began, so my reaction time was a bit slow and Myla got a tiny head start. I still accelerated quickly and I thought I could overtake her, but she turned her D-wheel to be straight in front of me so that if I kept accelerating, I would ram into her. Which likely would cause me to have to surrender by the rules of the tournament, because while the contract wouldn’t have been intentional on my part, it might look like that to the watchers. And the proof of ‘my monsters said so’ doesn’t really cut it when it comes to me.

So I slowed down enough to not hit Myla while she just kept accelerating. Because of that, she made it to Fortissimo the Mobile Fortress first and got the first turn, and the first Speed Counter.

I just really hope she Synchro summons so that I can do my stuff.

----------------------------------------

Myla began by activating Aroma Gardening. She then played One for One, discarding Aromaseraphy Angelica and summoning Aromage Laurel.

Spoiler

[collapse]

She then normal summoned Aromage Rosemary, which allowed her to trigger Gardening to gain 1000 life points. And that naturally triggered Laurel’s effect, so Laurel turned itself into a Tuner for the turn. Myla then special summoned Aromaseraphy Angelica from her GY.

She then Synchro summoned using Rosemary and Laurel to summon out Aromaseraphy Rosemary.  And because Aromage Laurel went to the GY, Myla gained 500 more life.

And she followed that up with a second Synchro summon. She used Aromaseraphy Rosemary and Aromaseraphy Angelica to summon Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram. And she used Sweet Marjoram to search for Blessed Winds.

She then set one card and ended her turn.

My turn began. I drew a card and we both gained a Speed Counter.

I began my turn with Mystical Space Typhoon. I used it to destroy Myla’s set card. But in response, she flipped it face up and used the Blessed Winds. She paid 1000 life points and resurrected her Aromaseraphy Rosemary. Which then triggered Aroma Gardening so Myla gained back the 1000 life points she just paid.

Spoiler

[collapse]

At least now she won’t be able to use Sweet Marjoram’s effect on my turn. It could have been a pain.

And I did what Meklords do best. Well, my Meklords. Punish my opponent for having a Synchro on the field. Because in my hand, I had all three of my Meklord Anti-Tuners, so I special summoned all three of them. I then played Boon of the Meklord Emperor to draw three cards, just to make sure my hand doesn’t get too empty.

Spoiler

[collapse]

I then special summoned my D-wheel. Well, the monster my D-wheel is based on. Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk. I used its effect to target all three of my Anti-Tuners, and I sent them to the GY, and Asterisk gained their combined stats. That gave it 4800 attack and 3400 defense.

Spoiler

[Obviously a slightly custom Astro Dragon Asterisk. OG only gains attack, but Brian’s gains both attack and defense. It also has two effects the OG doesn’t have, but Brian will explain them in the chapter.]

[collapse]

My Astro Dragon Asterisk is slightly custom, as it has targeting and destruction immunity from everything except Synchro monsters. Now you might ask why not from them, and to that I say, because it punishes your opponent for Synchro summoning. So I wanted Synchro monsters to be the way to get rid of it.

It is basically a catch-22. You either have to summon a main deck monster with more attack than what Astro Dragon Asterisk has, or you have to summon out a Synchro monster and take the 1000 burn. Neither is optimal but 1 is way less difficult than the other.

And it also has one effect if it leaves the field, but I’ll tell you about that when it happens.

Also, since all three of my Anti-Tuners went to the GY, all of their effects activated. With Skiel, I searched my deck for Meklord Astro Mekanikle, because I want to summon it this duel. With Wisel I searched for Anti-Tuning of the Meklord Emperors, but I’ll explain that custom card if I get to activate it. And finally, with Granel I gained 4000 life points.

Sadly during the time I wasted searching all those cards, the current Field Spell ended and Spiritual Forest began. Myla was in the lead so she gained the extra Speed Counter.

I then activated Meklord Machine March. Because I control a Meklord monster, for the rest of the turn, my opponent cannot activate Spells or Traps, or the effect of face up monsters on the field. That made sure that Myla couldn’t immediately get rid of my Astro Dragon Asterisk.

I then moved into my battle phase and attacked Myla’s Aromaseraphy Rosemary with Asterisk. Myla had less LP than I do, so she could use Aroma Gardening to special summon a Plant from her deck. She summoned Aromage Laurel in defense. This triggered Aroma Gardenings other effect and Myla gained 1000 LP. But because of my Machine March, she couldn’t use the effects of her Synchro monsters.

I didn’t change my attack target, keeping it on Rosemary. Despite the life point boost, I still had more than Myla, so Rosemary had 2000 attack. Sure it survived the battle but Myla took 2800 damage.

During my main phase 2, I set two cards and I ended my turn. One of those two is to disrupt Myla and the other is for helping me summon Astro Mekanikle on my next turn.

----------------------------------------

Myla began her turn and admittedly, I had left her a really nice path to getting rid of my Astro Dragon Asterisk. I think you can all see it as well. But that doesn’t matter. I have both Astro Mekanikle and one other monster I want to summon in this duel, and as long as I manage those two things, I don’t care all that much if I lose. Admittedly if I manage to summon the second one I should win basically for sure as Myla's deck can't actually deal with it.

Myla activated Hidden Aroma, which she used to summon Aroma Jar in face down defense. It then flipped it to face up defense position.

Spoiler

[collapse]

And since Aroma Jar was revealed as it was special summoned, Aroma Gardening activated and Myla gained 1000 life points. That then triggered the effect of Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram, which she used to target and destroy my Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk.

Or she would have had I not activated my trap, Mektimed Blast. I used it to destroy my Astro Dragon, as well as Myla’s Aroma Jar. That also triggered the final effect of Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk. When it is destroyed, I can add up to three differently named Meklord Emperor’s from my deck to my hand, but I cannot special summon any of them this turn. I added all three to my hand.

Spoiler

[collapse]

It may seem like I left Myla with two monsters she can use to attack me in the face with, but as I said, I have a plan. Or a trap.

Myla changed her Aromage Laurel, which was a Tuner for the turn thanks to its own effect, to attack position. She then moved to her battle phase and declared an attack with it. But as I said, I have a trap. Chaos Infinity. I used it to special summon Meklord Army of Skiel to my field in defense position.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Myla called off her attack with Laurel, and instead attacked with Aromaseraphy Rosemary. The attack went through and my Army of Skiel was destroyed. But when it is, I can summon another one, again in defense. Myla attacked over the second Army of Skiel with Sweet Marjoram and I summoned Meklord Army of Wisel. That one actually in attack position.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Myla moved to her main phase 2. She hesitated a bit, but did use Speed Factory. She removed four Speed Counters and drew a card. She then used Aromaseraphy Rosemary and Aromage Laurel to Synchro summon a second Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram. She used its effect to search for Humid Winds.

She set it, and one other card, and ended her turn.

[collapse]

----------------------------------------

And now it was my turn. So I drew a card and we gained our Speed Counters.

I discarded all three Meklord Emperors so that I could special summon Meklord Astro Mekanikle.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Like Astro Dragon Asterisk, I also customized Astro Mekanikle. It still has all of its regular effects, but it has one on top of that. When a card or effect is activated, Astro Mekanikle can negate the activation and destroy the card. And it can do this up to the number of differently named “Meklord Emperor” monsters discarded for its summoning. That is as a whole while it is face up on the field, not per turn. But that does still give me access to 3 omni negates. And they aren’t once per turn.

“I use the effect of my Meklord Astro Mekanikle. I can target a Synchro monster you control and equip it to my Astro Mekanikle.” I used my monsters effect.

“Not so fast.” Myla interrupted. “I activate my Humid Winds. Now since I have less life points than you do, I gain 500 life points.”

“Yes you would, but you won’t.” I said. “I use Astro Mekanikle’s effect to negate that effect and destroy Humid Winds.”

“Before you do that, I use the other effect of Humid Winds. I pay 1000 life points to search my deck for an Aroma monster and add it to my hand. I’m adding Aromaseraphy Angelica.” Myla said.

That was actually a nice move by her. Sure I could have negated the search as well, but I have a limited number of negates to I’d really rather not.1Note: I’m honestly not 100% sure if that is allowed in the rules. I tried to find info about that but I didn’t find anything saying it isn’t allowed, so I’m allowing it.

Sadly for her, Myla couldn’t chain the effect of Aromaseraphy Angelica to everything else. That was because as the chain resolved, the first action that happened was her adding Angelica to her hand. Then my negation and destruction of Humid Winds, and finally my Astro Mekanikle snagged one of Myla’s Sweet Marjoram.

Myla started the next chain, discarding the Aromaseraphy Angelica to her GY. She targeted Aromaseraphy Rosemary with it. I could have negated the LP gain, but I’d rather negate the Sweet Marjoram.

So Myla gained 2000 life points and that let her activate the effect of Sweet Marjoram. I negated the effect and destroyed the Synchro monster.

Before my battle phase came around, the Field Spells changed and we entered the Machine Conversion Factory. That gave my two Meklords a 200 attack boost. Myla was in the lead, so an extra speed counter for her.

I then moved into my battle phase and attacked with Astro Mekanikle. Since it had the Sweet Marjoram as an equip, it had 6200 attack. Plus 200 more from Machine Conversion Factory for a total of 6400.

But since I declared an attack while Myla had less life points than I did, Aroma Gardening activated. … or it would have had I not used Astro Mekanikle’s last negate to stop and destroy the spell.

But after that little annoyance was dealt with, Myla had a trap waiting for me. Aromatic Tuning. With it, she could banish Aroma monsters from her GY and use them as Synchro material for an Aroma Synchro monster.

She banished Aromaseraphy Angelica and Aroma Jar to summon out Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus. A nice little custom card that Cailie was actually behind.

Spoiler

Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus

Level 2

1000/1000

Light/Plant/Synchro/Tuner/Effect

1 Tuner + 1 non-Tuner monster

➀ When this card is Synchro summoned: Gain 500 Life Points for every "Aroma" monster you control and in your GY, except this card.

➁ If you gain LP: Target 1 "Aroma" monster you control; this turn that monster is unaffected by your opponent's card's effects, it cannot be destroyed by battle, and you take no battle damage from battles involving that monster.

➂ If you summon an "Aroma" Synchro monster while you control this card: You can special summon 1 "Aroma" Synchro monster from your GY. You can only use this effect of “Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus” once per turn.

➃ Once per turn, during either players turn: you can target any number of "Aroma" Synchro monsters you control, reduce their levels as you wish and then gain LP equal to the total levels reduced x500.

➄ While your LP are higher than your opponent's you can (Quick Effect): Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon using this card you control.

[collapse]

Yes it has too many effects. But Cailie wanted it to be good since the Aromages and Aromaseraphies really help her in her work. And it isn’t that good since this is one of the few times it has been summoned during the tournament. The Aromas just lack good level 1 non-Tuners.

But since it now was, its effect activated. Myla has 5 Aroma monsters in her GY, so she gained 2500 LP. That triggered effect number 2, and she targeted Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus with it so it was now destruction immune for the turn. And she wouldn’t even take the battle damage.

There was no real point in attacking, but I still had my two Meklords attack her. Just for the show of seeing the tiny plant-fairy survive the attacks of my massive machines.

I then ended my turn.

Myla’s turn began and she drew a card. And we both gained our Speed Counters.

She used the GY effect of Aromatic Tuning. She banished it so she could special summon an Aroma Synchro from her GY. She summoned out her Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram.

That then triggered the third effect of Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus, which allowed her to summon another Aroma Synchro from her GY, so Aromaseraphy Rosemary also returned to the field.

Myla then used the effect of Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus, reducing the level of her Sweet Marjoram by 1 so she would gain 500 life points. And that naturally triggered Sweet Marjoram’s effect so Myla could target and destroy a card on the field. She demolished my Meklord Astro Mekanikle.

Myla moved into her battle phase and attacked over my Meklord Army of Wisel with her Sweet Marjoram. Wisel was the only Meklord I had on my field, but the Field Spell was still on my side, so it had 2000 attack. But Myla now has more LP than I do, so Aromaseraphy Rosemary gave Sweet Marjoram 500 more attack.

In short, Army of Wisel was destroyed and I took 700 damage.

Myla then attacked directly with both Aromaseraphy Rosemary and Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus, and I took 4000 damage in total from those two attacks.

Myla ended her turn. And you might think things are not looking good for me but the truth is that I have my ultimate boss monster ready to be summoned. And as I said, Myla won't be able to deal with it.

But now it was time for what I had been waiting for since I searched for the Anti-Tuning of the Meklord Emperors on my second turn. I have everything where I want it and I’m ready to go.

“I’m activating Anti-Tuning of the Meklord Emperors!” I announced. “Since I have three differently named Meklord Emperors, and three differently named Meklord Anti-Tuners in my graveyard, I can perform the ultimate Anti-Synchro summon by banishing those monsters.”

“For their last chance to stop Zero Reverse, the Meklords bring together all of their power. With their united might, they call forth a god that stands against Synchros and Momentum!

“Appear. Level -12, Meklord Anti-Synchro God Astro Deus!”

Meklord Anti-Synchro God Astro Deus

Level -12

3 "Meklord" Anti-Tuner monsters + 3 non-Tuner "Meklord Emperor" monsters

➀  Unaffected by your opponent's cards and effects, except the effects of Level 12 Synchro Monsters. ➁  Cannot be destroyed by battle, except by a Level 12 Synchro Monster. ➂ If your opponent Synchro summons a Synchro Monster(s): Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the level of the summoned Monster(s) x500. ➃ Once per turn, Destroy any number of Synchro Monsters your opponent controls; then inflict damage to your opponent equal to the attack they have in the GY.

[Note: As you may have noticed, Astro Deus doesn’t need the differently named Emperors or Anti-Tuners. But Anti-Tuning of the Meklord Emperors does require that. And you can’t actually summon Astro Deus in any other way. Well, you could have one of the materials on your opponent’s field and use a card to be able to use it for a Synchro summon. Just wanted to point that out.]

[collapse]

“Now, I’ll activate Astro Deus’ effect. I'm destroying all of your Synchro monsters.” I said coldly.

“I’m not letting you!” Myla called out.

“You can’t stop it. Astro Deus is unaffected by everything you can do.” I pointed out.

“Not one thing! I activate Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus’ fifth effect! Now I can Synchro summon using it as a material!”

“You don’t run Quasar.” I pointed out, since I knew she didn’t.

“I don’t, but I do have something else.” Myla said, and I could practically hear the smirk on her face.

Wait what? She shouldn’t have a single level 12 Synchro in her deck. She does have a level 7, but that can’t help her now.

“I tune my two level 5 Synchro monsters Aromaseraphy Rosemary and Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram, with my level 2 Synchro Tuner Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus!” Myla said.

Oh god she has one! Which one? Did she side in Quasar when I wasn’t looking? Well, whatever. Even if she has Quasar, I can just destroy it by battle. Not like Shooting Star can go against Astro Deus.

“The world is filled with scents and the most skilled of us develop those into Aromas. Those Aromas bring health and prosperity.

“Only those knowledgeable in Aromaseraphy know the true origin of these Aromas, and now it shall be revealed.

I just watched as the massive tree bloomed in the distance. It somehow existed both beyond the walls of the Factory and inside of it at the same time. It honestly confused my sense of space and I have quite a good one thanks to Space Magic.

I quickly read the effects of the custom card and I honestly wanted to complain to someone. Who designed this thing!?

As I thought that, I heard some light giggles coming over the System link. I quickly recognized them and asked the culprit.

(Cailie! What did you do?)

(What? Can’t other people use cards like these? You allowed me to make Aromaseraphy Eucalyptus so they needed something to summon with it.) She said while still giggling.

(It was meant to be a way for them to summon Quasar. Not this … thing.)

(Oh stop complaining. Your Astro Deus is too strong for any regular monster to fight. So now it gets to fight another God Synchro.) Cailie said. (And you better focus on the duel or you’ll start losing Speed Counters due to inaction.)

I focused back onto the duel and Cailie was right. I only has 6 more seconds to take an action or I’d lose a Speed Counter. Luckily I had one queued up even if it was far from optimal.

“Since you Synchro summoned a monster, you take damage equal to its level times 500.” I said as I activated the mandatory effect of Astro Deus. “The Aromatic World Tree is level 12 so you take 6000 damage.”

“You know that won’t happen.” Myla said, being the one who was now calm. “The Aromatic World Tree’s third effect. Any effect damage increases my life points by that amount instead. So I gain 6000 life points.”

“And since I gained life points, I can activate one of my Winds traps from my deck.” Myla continued. “I think I’ll activate Blessed Winds.”

“... so be it.” I said trying to go back to being nonchalant, even though I was in a bad spot. I can actually get rid of the tree, as impossible as it may seem now that it has 12,400 attack.

But if you remember the effects of my Anti-Synchro Granel, it will gain even more attack so I can actually deal with this stupid tree.

I just need to somehow summon it before I lose. And that isn’t quite as easy but I’ll do my best.

“I’ll set three cards face down and end my turn.” I said.

“Before you do, I’m using Blessed Winds to return one of my Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram to my extra deck, and I’ll gain 500 life points. And since I did, I can activate another Winds from my deck. I’ll get the Dried Winds.”

Myla then decided that it didn’t matter what I had. Which sadly was true. I didn’t have the traps to buy myself a turn, or more like two or three.

She attacked my Astro Deus with Aromatic World Tree. The tree had 12,900 attack, while my machine only had 5000, so I took 7900 damage. Which as you may know, is more than what I have. Thus, I lost the duel and Myla had become the second person to beat me in the vs. creator match in one of my tournaments.
