Chapter 580: Renqin’s Final Investigation
CHAPTER 580: RENQIN’S FINAL INVESTIGATION
As the afternoon approached, Liuqian and Yuqi were both inside her office as Xiaoyun sat on the couch.
The two of them were ironing out the details, cooperating much better than he had ever imagined.
It turned out they had a misunderstanding. Yuqi wanted a private-sector lead solution the whole time.
It’s just that the stagnant private market made her turn towards a public solution. Especially after the continued stagnation after the new currency rollout.
Meanwhile, from Liuqian’s perspective, he and many of the wealthy citizens who had deposited their money in the bank perceived her as a staunch Keynesian.
In their eyes, putting money in the bank was the safest bet. Even with the low interest rate, it was still better than taking bigger risks.
The constant meddling was just making them too scared to invest, let alone create their own business, even if the new currency had a low interest rate.
The increasingly nationalized agriculture sector and subsidized construction sector didn’t help either, creating a perception of government against private business.
"Sorry for misunderstanding you, Deputy Governor." Liuqian apologized as the final draft of the plan began to print out from the printer.
"It’s fine, Liuqian. Please don’t be afraid to talk to me. I’m more than happy to talk through our differences."
As she took the printed paper out of the printer, the small frown that had been on her forehead for the past few days disappeared.
"I can’t always get the most accurate information on what people feel. I’m glad you taught me an important lesson today."
"That’s too much, Miss Yuqi."
Seeing Yuqi bowing down in apology, Liuqian quickly rushed over to help her back up before putting the paper on the table.
"Well, looks like all the misunderstandings are taken care of. Let me sign this, and you two can have fewer things to worry about."
Xiaoyun quickly took out a pen, flipping to the last page, and signing his signature at the authorization line.
"Here’s one copy to you, and the other copy for you."
"Thank you, Governor." Liuqian bowed down slightly in gratitude.
"No problem."
As Liuqian walked out of the room with his final edition of the plan, Yuqi put her copy of the plan back into the cabinet.
"Congrats, now you have one less problem to worry about," Xiaoyun whispered as he moved over to her side of the desk.
"Thanks."
Seeing Yuqi already going back to work on her computer, Xiaoyun was a little annoyed by her deafening tone.
"Ahem, am I not going to get a reward?"
"What reward?" Yuqi asked, her eyes still on the computer as she typed on her keyboard.
"Come on. I pretty much solved the unemployment issue. If it weren’t for me, Liuqian would have never shown the plan to you." Xiaoyun argued.
Yuqi finally stopped as she turned her chair over to the side. Her eyes looked up to his face as she held up a small grin.
"What reward do you want then?"
"A kiss on the cheek."
"Just a kiss on the cheek?"
Xiaoyun nodded, reaffirming his decision as he lowered his head and closed his eyes. He waited as her breath got closer and closer to his neck.
"Muah! Here, you happy?" Yuqi asked as a tad bit of red lipstick mark appeared right at the corner of his cheek.
"Woohoo! See you later tonight."
"Later."
Yuqi rolled her eyes as Xiaoyun left the office in pure excitement. Her eyes quickly shifted back to the computer as she let out a small sigh.
"More work for me..." Yuqi murmured, her mind already thinking back to the amount of work needed to even set up for Liuqian’s plan.
----
As Xiaoyun stepped out of the office, his face instantly return back to normal as he stepped out of the office.
"You might want to wipe that lip mark on your cheek." Kate’s voice appeared as he entered the elevator alone.
"Why would I do that? I’m not embarrassed by it." Xiaoyun answered as he pressed the ground floor button.
Kate didn’t say any further as the elevator reached the bottom floor. Stepping out, he was a little surprised to see Renqin standing right by the front door.
"Hey Renqin, what brought you here?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as he walked over to him.
"Boss, I found something very important that I need to tell you. Can we go somewhere private?"
"Sure."
The two of them quickly headed towards the bank across the street before entering a private room.
"What do you want to talk about? Where’s Yueyue?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.
"She’s involved as a suspect in this investigation. I had only finished collecting this information yesterday."
Just as Renqin was about to hand over a small folder from his jacket, he suddenly turned towards the blank wall.
"Who’s there?"
After a few seconds of nothing happening, Renqin scratched his head in confusion as he handed the document over to Xiaoyun.
"Sorry about that, boss. I’m just a little paranoid."
"It’s fine."
As Xiaoyun opened the folder, the first thing he saw was the word ’Top Secret’ on the cover.
The second page instantly shocked him a little. It was a picture of Leyan with almost every single personal detail down to the wires.
"Renqin, who told you to investigate my wife?" Xiaoyun questioned as he closed the folder.
"Boss, please. Finish reading this. I promise I did this for a reason."
Seeing Renqin stubbornly looking back at him, Xiaoyun opened back up the folder again before resuming where he had left off.
Further down the second page was just more basic information, including ones before the outbreak.
His heart instantly skipped a beat. His mind was instantly worried by the possibility that his true relationship to Leyan had been found out.
However, after flipping to the third page, his concern was dismissed.
It only went as far as to list her as Songming’s past widow and her missing child named Xiaoyun, nothing about his actual blood relationship.
"What a coincidence, the same name as me... No wonder she was so willing to adopt me when she first saw me before the outbreak." Xiaoyun calmly responded.
Renqin didn’t comment on anything as Xiaoyun continued reading down the third page of the document.
The rest of the page was just a list of her connections in Luoping, from friends of Huayi to the grocery store worker she talked to every weekday.
"The next page is the most important part." Renqin finally commented.
With a steady hand, Xiaoyun flipped to the fourth page. What he saw next shocked him a little.
It was an entire web. A list of code names, all tracing back to Leyan as the mastermind behind several plots.
As Xiaoyun flipped to the fifth and final three pages, it was a long, detailed plot. An elaborate scheme down to the wires on how to seize control.
A coup, to be more exact. A plan to arrest all of his generals. From Zhen Ren, Li Miao, and Han Bang to even Lingang and Yiming.
Every high-position general had their own reasoning and methods to be arrested with. Ranging from cases of corruption to straight-up kidnapping.
The only name that was missing from the target was Yezi. And more importantly, he himself wasn’t on the list.
"I already know about this." Xiaoyun calmly responded.
"You do, boss?" Renqin questioned, his voice sounding a little bit in disbelief.
"Of course, I know of this. Do you really think my wife would hide secrets from me?"
"Oh..."
Seeing Renqin looking a little disappointed, Xiaoyun’s face remained calm as he patted him on the back.
Yet, Xiaoyun’s spine felt a chill. His mind was still beyond shock at what Leyan had really hidden from him.
"Good job on finding it out. Anyway, is your transition with Yueyue completed?" Xiaoyun calmly asked.
"Y-Yes, boss... Today was actually my last day."
"Oh really? Let me give you one last gift before you can retire in peace. Don’t say no to it, you deserve it."
As Xiaoyun walked out of the room, Renqin followed right behind as they headed towards one of the bank tellers.
"Good evening, Governor. How may I help you?"
"Can you give me a check? I want to write one for a friend of mine over here."
The bank teller quickly walked over to the other bank tellers before coming back with an entire stack of checks.
"Here you go, sir."
"Thank you."
With the check in hand, Xiaoyun grabbed the pen before writing his signature right at the bottom.
"Here you go. Feel free to write any number you want... If you change your mind or have a problem, you have my phone number.
Renqin fell into silence as he stared at the check in his hand. His mind suddenly felt regretful as he stared at the blank check with Xiaoyun’s name.
But at the same time, the image of a woman appeared in his head. A wedding that he had promised to the love of his life.
Someone who had waited for him all these times.
"Thank you, boss..."
