’That’s it Father! Show this guy what it means to try and steal cabbage from Nightbane farm!’ Felix cheered internally.

’Hm... father is still the most trustworthy.’ Even Kael admired his father’s stern aura.

Even though his father was just a researcher, he was still able to pull off the aura of a high-ranking political officer.

’My husband looks handsome; I will reward him tonight.’ Helena rejoiced and controlled the urge to smile.

Ivy felt nervous for Silas and immediately called out in a soft voice,

"Dad."

In an instant, the stern aura around Victor vanished into thin air, and he asked with a kind smile,

"Yes, Ivy."

Ivy batted her eyes, and her beautiful pink irises sparkled under the sunlight, making them glow like jewels. Her gentle voice, laced with a hint of coyness, caused Victor’s defenses to crumble in an instant.

"Please don’t make things difficult for Silas."

Victor fell silent; he almost instinctively wanted to nod but froze when he heard Ivy’s request.

’No... I can’t agree to it... I need to...’ Before he could finish his inner monologue, his eyes crashed into Ivy’s pink eyes carrying hope, and he blurted out,

"Alright!"

Nightbane: "..." We are so disappointed in you.

Silas: "..." So we can do that too?

Felix, Kael, and Helena shot a look that screamed, ’We are so disappointed in you, Victor.’

Victor shot back with a look that said, ’If you can refuse her while she looks like that, then go ahead and do it!’

"Thank you, Father. You are the best!" With that, Ivy stood up and hugged Victor.

Thud! Thud!

Victor felt his heart beating with pure joy. His daughter called him the best father!

Though Ember had said the same thing multiple times to him, he still felt proud and thrilled when he heard those words from Ivy’s mouth.

Now this reward made him feel that everything was worth it.

He patted Ivy’s back and blinked back the tears forming in his eyes.

It has been such a long time. When he had held his daughter the first time, she could easily fit in his one hand, and now... she was almost reaching his chin.

At last Felix picked up all the pasta packets while Kael silently poured Ivy a glass of water and handed Ivy and Silas a few chocolate bars.

Victor, on the other hand, went to the base leader and secretly arranged for electricity in their house.

Their daughter had finally returned. How could he let her suffer?

Even Helena generously prepared water for Ivy and Silas to take a quick shower.

Ivy only felt her heart aching terribly. These were her parents.

They cared for her to the extent that they were ready to give up all the luxury they owned just to treat her well.

Swallowing the lump in her throat, Ivy took a shower and returned to the living room, where two plates of white sauce pasta were presented.

All of the Nightbane family was waiting for her at the dinner table.

"Come here, sis! Try the food made by your brother." Felix presented the pasta with a huge grin, but Ivy didn’t move; instead, her gaze swept over everyone before she asked,

"Why are there only two plates? Why don’t you all have any plates?"

"Ah! Sweetie, we already had lunch. And we don’t like pasta much." Helena lied naturally; her eyes stayed trained on Ivy as if to show her sincerity.

’Why, Mom... why always sacrifice your comfort just to provide me with the best...’ Ivy pursed her lips.

"Oh? Is that so?" Ivy drawled, giving the Nightbane family a final chance to redeem themselves, but they only maintained their smile, and Felix even dared to place his hand on his stomach and say,

"Mom, do we have any digestion pills? I ate too much lunch; my stomach is about to burst open!"

"We have it, I will give it to you later, when..."

’Hard way it is then.’ Ivy curved her lips, but soon tears started to stream down her face, as the heartbreaking sobbing caught the entire Nightbane family by surprise.

"Ivy?" Silas’s concerned voice broke the Nightbane daze, and they immediately started to fuss around.

"Ivy, what happened? Why are you crying, dear?" The sound of the chair scraping against the floor cut through the air. Helena stood up and walked up to Ivy, hugging her.

"You don’t love me! You are lying to me! When I arrived, it was only 11 o’clock! How can you have lunch at that time? You don’t love me enough to eat the food I brought! You are trying to make me feel like I am an outsider!" Ivy’s nose turned red, while the tears shimmered like pearls against her pale skin.

It was a beautiful sight, yet everyone only felt heartache.

"It’s not what you think, child... we really have eaten..." Helena murmured, her voice was laced with nervousness.

"No! Either you eat too, or otherwise... I will leave!" Ivy threatened; her face looked so cute that Felix wanted to pull her cheeks.

’She resembles a pink rabbit.’ Kael thought in his heart, but at the same time, his heart warmed up.

Everyone was smart enough to understand that Ivy was acting... and yet no one was furious.

She was acting so that... they have a full stomach.

In an apocalypse where even kin turn against each other, Ivy... was an anomaly yet... was just like the Nightbanes.

"Alright," Victor stated his agreement. Even though it was an act... the sight of Ivy crying was... too heartbreaking. His heart couldn’t bear it.

"Okay. Felix, go and fetch the other plates too." Helena wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes and tried her best not to let any tears drop.

"Alright." Felix nodded, but in his heart, he was thrilled and touched.

He could finally have pasta! After such a long time!
